Dear mid-60s Buick owners with d'em Wintertime blues, . . . . .
Winter is always a hard time for classic car owners, so I thought I would make a point to post a few classic car photos whenever I come across them. Something to bring a smile to everyone's faces. A while back I spotted something really amazing and I finally managed to lug my camera over there and take a photo of it:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Nash-Metropolitan-DIY-bone-yard/i-HXGhfDb/0/001f4cdf/XL/Nash%20Metropolitan%20DIY%20bone-yard-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Nash-Metropolitan-DIY-bone-yard/i-HXGhfDb/A)
It is a "do-it-yourself" bone-yard for the Nash Metropolitan! It must be the source of spares for this car that appears regularly at the Orinda Classic Car Show:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Nash-Metropolitan-DIY-bone-yard/i-G26cP2L/0/99f94651/XL/1959%20Nash%20Metropolitan%20-%20port-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Nash-Metropolitan-DIY-bone-yard/i-G26cP2L/A)
This photo was taken during the 2017 show. Here is another view:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Nash-Metropolitan-DIY-bone-yard/i-NNpJ29R/0/d34dbff4/XL/1959%20Nash%20Metropolitan%20-%20front-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Nash-Metropolitan-DIY-bone-yard/i-NNpJ29R/A)
If you are curious on the history of the Nash Metropolitan, there is a good description of the car's history on Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nash_Metropolitan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nash_Metropolitan)
Considering how rare these cars are, the owner is simply bring prudent in having two parts cars around for spares!
Enjoy! Edouard :occasion14:
P.S. If anyone else has photos that they would like to contribute to this thread - by all means go for it! . . . . (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/kodak.gif)

Dear mid-60s Buick owners with d'em Wintertime blues, . . . . .
This morning there was a tree service working on a nearby house. When I went over to investigate I found something rather surprising:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-dBVzTGV/0/fe997857/XL/Ford%20F-series%20truck%20from%20about%201965-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-dBVzTGV/A)
It is a Ford F-series truck from around 1965! Okay, it isn't a Buick, but it is certainly rare to see a 50 year old truck continuing to be used for business. This one has clearly been kept in good shape!
Not enough to chase away those Winter blues? This may come as a shock, but we already have some plum trees in bloom!
(https://photos.smugmug.com/Nature/Wild-Flowers/Scenes-of-Spring-2018/i-VmZmkd4/0/f3ea7804/XL/Plum%20tree%20blooming%20very%20early-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/Nature/Wild-Flowers/Scenes-of-Spring-2018/i-VmZmkd4/A)
These trees are against a creek and that apparently allows them to bloom very early. Last year they were in bloom about February 1st. This past December was very dry and unusually warm in the daytime. I suppose that was enough to get these trees blooming almost a month earlier than last year.
So however dreary it may look outside at the moment, be reassured that Spring will most certainly come to you eventually!
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:
-
I like it! We still see some pretty old farm trucks in use around here yet too, fun to see.
-
Thanks Edouard The truck is real cool, but the photo of the plum tree is even better considering that we have been in the deep freeze for two weeks now. last night was the worst with a reading of -10 with the wind chill factor and ice & snow everywhere. I covered my fruit tree at the end of November but it may not survive this extreme cold period. Was just looking at some Laurel & Hardy videos while drinking some hot chocolate. I know they were shot in and around Culver City area of Los Angeles, Its fun looking at the model T's and all those PALM trees.

Dear Tony and mid-60s Buick owners caught in a harsh winter,

Sorry to hear about your yard suffering in the extreme weather. Here in California we are experiencing another kind of extremes where either there is no rain or the storms are very powerful. In France and other parts of Europe there is a lot of flooding. It certainly has been a tough winter thus far.
Was just looking at some Laurel & Hardy videos while drinking some hot chocolate. I know they were shot in and around Culver City area of Los Angeles, Its fun looking at the model T's and all those PALM trees.
I'm glad you found a way to take your mind off of the cold weather. Let's all hope for a way out of this mess soon.
Cheers, Edouard

It has been a bit of a bizarre winter. Most assuredly waiting for Spring.
Edouard as you're probably away Montecito is close to my neck of the woods. I've never heard of rain this intense. Usually 1 or 2 inches per hour is considered heavy rain. They had half and inch in 5 minutes. Just mind boggling.
-
Dear Iain and mid-60s Buick owners with an eye on the weather,
It has been a bit of a bizarre winter. Most assuredly waiting for Spring.
Well don't rush too much into Spring. At the moment California is back in a drought.
Edouard as you're probably away Montecito is close to my neck of the woods. I've never heard of rain this intense. Usually 1 or 2 inches per hour is considered heavy rain. They had half and inch in 5 minutes. Just mind boggling.
That works out to a rainfall rate of 9" inches an hour. That's a lot of rain and is the sort of thing you'll see in the Midwest (although not continuously for an hour) and during a hurricane. That sort of rainfall rate isn't unheard off elsewhere, but for California it is basically unheard of.
Cheers, Edouard

Few things here: 1. Forgot to say, I like the pic. It was my mom's first car! Can't imagine driving one of those.
2. How many minutes do you have in your hours?
3. Yes, more drought. Last winter was really a fluke and we got really lucky. At the moment we aren't Cape Town, South Africa. In my little town of Nipomo, we never left 'Stage 3' restrictions because of the drought. Technically, no outdoor watering, no building, etc. (though it happens)
4. I have been intentionally spelling my name wrong with only 1 "I" because it confuses people. It's Gaelic and rarely seen in this part of the world, but often seen in Scotland and the UK.

Hi Iain and mid-60s Buick owners who wish to be handy with figures,
Few things here: 1. Forgot to say, I like the pic. It was my mom's first car! Can't imagine driving one of those.
Agreed! They are cute to look at, but drive one? . . . . :icon_scratch:
2. How many minutes do you have in your hours?
Bummer dude! Yes I did the math too fast. That's 18" of rain per hour. That's getting rare. I don't think even hurricanes can sustain rainfall rates like that for very long.
Well, we got our restrictions lifted for last summer. I've more than had enough of the drought routine. We already had a drought-tolerant yard since we went though the 1976 drought and we still lost some plants. I've had enough of this nonsense. :BangHead:
4. I have been intentionally spelling my name wrong with only 1 "I" because it confuses people. It's Gaelic and rarely seen in this part of the world, but often seen in Scotland and the UK.
Hey, if the correct spelling is Iain, spell it that way! People should get used to it!

Dear mid-60s Buick owners with d'em Wintertime blues, . . . . (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/pout.gif)
Yesterday, I ran over to Orinda Classic Car center to get their opinions on Jet-Hot coatings. Believe it or not, yes they had some classic car "customers," they were working on. One of them was this Ford pickup truck:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-7Vw59Pz/0/8d5b6cd3/XL/1967-72%20Ford%20Pickup%20truck%20-%20port%20front-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-7Vw59Pz/A)
It is of the series built from 1967 through to 1973. So while trucks don't seem to "age" as much as cars, this truck could be about as old as any of our cars. Here is another view:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-4gChsFX/0/841602fc/XL/1967-72%20Ford%20Pickup%20truck%20-%20port%20rear-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-4gChsFX/A)
Trucks typically live a hard life and most are driven into the ground long before they reach age 50. So it is nice to see this one being well cared for - even if it is just a Ford! :laughing7:
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:
P.S. This truck must have been rescued because it has modern license plates. According to Wikipedia, California license plates didn't take the blue lettering on a reflective white and the script version of California until 1994.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_California (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_California)
Therefore this truck must have lost its original plates sometime in the past.

I had an interesting classic car fix while driving to work this morning. To set things up, I'm in Manitoba, Canada where it can get extremely cold in January. So I end up following a 66 Pontiac Beaumont 4 door sedan for a few miles. It was snowing, the wind was howling, roads were becoming icy, and this dude is driving a 52 year old car!! Only managed a quick look at the driver side which looke in good shape.
Probably the last classic I'll see until later this spring once our roads are snow, salt, and sand free.

Very interesting story! :hello:
(http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/wink_smile_triangle.gif) . . . . But, why didn't you pull out your smart-phone and take a picture. Post it on Instragram, then add it to your Facebook page, post it on Twitter, . . . . . . . . (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/confused_do_no.gif)
This morning I turned from a major intersection to our local Trader Joe's to spot a car with the backup lights on. The car sat there with another person wanting to take the space. It still sat there as I arrived at the entrance. I had to decide if it was safe to enter the parking lot with this car about to back up into the entrance. After waiting a second or two and seeing that I had an empty space that I could quickly occupy, I took the risk and rushed into the space. The car didn't move even if the car had been reverse all the time. As I got closer I could see. The person had put the car into reverse and - then - checked their smart-phone! Be safe on the road!

Nice Truck! I like those old Fords.
I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had bought a 1991 F-150 brand new. Technically, it now qualifies as an antique since it's 27 years old! However, my classic car insurance company doesn't agree... they will not insure it. They claim it has 'high mileage' (110k), and is just a retired daily driver.
I find it ironic that some of my antique Buicks were also daily drivers, have in excess of 100k miles, and are not in as good original condition as my truck is.... and they would have no problem insuring those!
I sure wish this '66 vert I just bought had been cared for as well as my truck has been!
Here's a pic of my two antiques:
-
Dear Walt and mid-60s Buick owners who take good care of their vehicles,

It is a strange position for an insurance company to take. Since your truck is in such good condition, they are most likely going to make money on your premiums. That's an example of a policy that is misguided.
Indeed I wish most people took better care of the vehicles they possess!
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

Hi all,
If you're worried about insurance value just do stated value insurance, you tell them what you expect when its totaled and then if something does happen your at least where you want to be dollar wise.
I have a good friend with a 79 F350 on 40's think he has it insured for 40 grand or more at this point, nice clean truck, may not be worth that to others but its what he expects if something was to happen
A few years ago I had my daily driver totaled, needless to say with 200,000 miles and a little rust we went round and round about the pay off
Nice Ford and future project.
Cheers,
-
Ed,
That blue truck is cool. Personally I think it would be cooler with skinnier wheels, like stock, and less of a lift. But it is still cool.
Back when I was 16 the good family friends bought a 60s Ford Truck (don't remember why) and I drive it a couple times. I just loved that truck. So much fun to drive. It had a PA too but I didn't really care about that.
The UPS guy must have had his 'fix' today as he was exhilarated upon seeing my Skylark.
-
Dear Iain, and mid-60s Buick caregivers,
That blue truck is cool. Personally I think it would be cooler with skinnier wheels, like stock, and less of a lift. But it is still cool.
Agreed! I prefer more stock looking in most situations.
The UPS guy must have had his 'fix' today as he was exhilarated upon seeing my Skylark.
*Sigh*, the UPS drivers also liked to see my wagon when was running. Alas, she hasn't been running since last April. (http://www.canebas.org/Weather/LWC_forum/Custom_emoticons/pout.gif)
Oh well, . . . . . Edouard
-
So I'm heading home today after an excruciating 4 hour day :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin: Shortly after leaving work, an early to mid 70's Plymouth station wagon turned onto the road immediately behind me. (got your attention yet Edouard :hello:) I spotted it as the driver waited for a chance to make their turn, and it looked very pristine. Bear in mind that winter has an iron grip on these parts, and it was -8 F! What the hell are people up here doing driving such nice old cars during frozen tundra season??
Edouard, I do not possess this thing you call "smart phone". :nono: :overthetop: :dontknow: :confused4: Don't have any plans to obtain one either. :laughing7: Keep foregtting to bring my 35 mm digital camera with me as well. :BangHead:

Well, I understand your concern, but still, . . . . it was a wagon!! . . . . :love4:
Edouard, I do not possess this thing you call "smart phone". :nono: :overthetop: :dontknow: :confused4:
It is just a figure of speech! Well, they are handy for streaming music via Bluetooth if you have a stereo that can handle it. Even my trusty wagon can do that! :angel4:

Dear mid-60s Buick owner with d'em wintertime blues, . . . .
I needed to pay a visit at Orinda Motors and they had this nicely restored Ford Mustang getting a little 'luv . . . . . :love4:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-Qm4pgKk/0/c00d420e/XL/Mustang%20-%20starboard%20front-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-Qm4pgKk/A)
Yeah, I know, I've seen way too many Mustangs in my lifetime, but at least this one has been taken care of and looks really original. Here is another view of the front:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-ckHsrf4/0/90071da5/XL/Mustang%20-%20port%20front-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-ckHsrf4/A)
I blur out the license plate numbers of cars I photograph "in the wild." since the owner cannot know his car is being photographed. However, this car had its original 1960s black California plates. If you look carefully, the word California is looking plenty "weary." The owner of this car should look into restoring the plate because it looks really out of place on a nice car like this. Here is the back:

Finally here is a view of the dash and front seats:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-hDWFMfz/0/fb7a146d/XL/Mustang%20-%20dash-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-hDWFMfz/A)
I hope the California sunshine takes some of the edge off of whatever winter is dishing out at you at the moment.
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

Thanks Edouard. 7-10" coming our way starting tonight. Think I'll hole up in the shop and try to get a GS put back together......

Dear mid-60s Buick owners with d'em Wintertime blues,
Someone on V-8 Buick posted this Craigslist ad for a 1962 Buick wagon:
https://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/d/1962-buick-wagon/6505528709.html (https://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/d/1962-buick-wagon/6505528709.html)
It is definitely in great shape for a 1962 car. Enjoy the "eye candy!"

Very nice long roof! And in Michigan to boot. But my collection is as large as it's going to get.....for now
Looks great under the hood. Not sure if I like the blackout treatment on the body of the air cleaner though. The jury's out on that...

That is in excellent condition. Love that interior. Anyone have an idea of the rear axle ratio on those big cars ?

Dear mid-60s Buick owners will suffering from d'em wintertime blues, . . .
Yesterday I spotted the perfect classic car scene for Easter but alas I didn't have my camera. Today I ran over and snapped this shot:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-Q8ctWZN/0/9f443aea/XL/Calla%20lilies%20in%20front%20of%20classic%20pickup%20-%20side-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-Q8ctWZN/A)
Even in Northern California it doesn't appear that Winter is giving up just yet, but hopefully that will give all your snowbound folks some encouragement that Spring is indeed going to come to you eventually . . . . .
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:
-
Edouard,
absolutely drooling over that gorgeous drop-top stang. What a beauty.
Here, my redbud is blooming. I say, when the redbud blooms, it is Spring. Though they say some more rain, but I doubt anything more than 'april showers' for 'may flowers'.
-
Dear Iain and mid-60s Buick owners with "d'em wintertime blues", . . . .
absolutely drooling over that gorgeous drop-top stang. What a beauty.
I thought I had some nice pictures of this truck when it parked on the street, but I haven't been able to find them.
Here, my redbud is blooming. I say, when the redbud blooms, it is Spring. Though they say some more rain, but I doubt anything more than 'april showers' for 'may flowers'.
Be careful. There is an Atmospheric River event expected for Northern California and it will bring close to record rains. Check your local forecast!
Now for the rest of those types with "d'em wintertime blues" . . . . How about this Corvette!
(https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-Q4mjMkS/0/62b9ac10/XL/i-Q4mjMkS-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Early-50s-Corvette-at-Orinda-Motors/n-BQRPVT/i-Q4mjMkS/A)
It was being put back together at Orinda Motors after a restoration horror story. The car was at not 1 but 2 shops. I didn't get the explanation of what went wrong at the first shop, but the owner of the second shop was in a nasty divorce and his wife kicked him out of his restoration shop. She was trying to keep all the car under restoration as "hostages." The owner of this Corvette had to get the Sheriff’s help to finally liberate his car. Of course not all the parts were recovered. Here is a view of the passenger side with a bit of the dash:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-zVNkw2V/0/1e64f5c0/XL/i-zVNkw2V-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Early-50s-Corvette-at-Orinda-Motors/n-BQRPVT/i-zVNkw2V/A)
Here is the front in the gloom of the service bay:

I don't know my Corvettes. Can anybody identify which year? Here it is being moved from one service bay to another:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-9xfhWXV/0/e7156343/XL/i-9xfhWXV-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Early-50s-Corvette-at-Orinda-Motors/n-BQRPVT/i-9xfhWXV/A)
Now the white is too much for my camera! Finally, there are two views of the engine bay. Here is the driver's side:

Sorry, my camera's built-in flash wasn't quite up to the task. Here is the other side:

It is either a 56 or 57. Nice!

In my opinion, the most beautiful of the Corvettes.
I believe I have seen those race at Laguna Seca for the historics. Which by the way, I live for.

Dear mid-60s Buick owner with d'em wintertime blues,
I ran over to the Orinda Classic Car center to discuss suspension upgrade for my trusty wagon. One of the "patients" that they were attending to was this yellow Chevy pickup truck:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-pJHdD4j/0/f9b8e020/XL/Yellow%20Chevy%20pickup%20-%20starboard-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-pJHdD4j/A)
As you can see this truck is a work in progress and probably works hard from time to time. Here is the back:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-r7Mkrjd/0/eca79b6c/XL/Yellow%20chevy%20pickup%20-%20back-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-r7Mkrjd/A)
Here is the driver's side:

All this may seem a bit discouraging until you peek into da' engine bay!

It is a Chevy small block but something new has been added. It is clearer from the other side:

That isn't a carburetor but a Holley sniper EFI (https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/fuel_injection/sniper_efi/) system. In the top left corner is an digital ignition controller box from MSD (https://www.msdperformance.com/products/ignitions/street/parts/6425). So this is one fancy truck no matter what its outward appearance.
Enjoy!

what's going on with that pulley belt? looks like a supercharger belt.
-
Dear Iain and mid-60s Buick owners who don't mind learning a thing or two from someone else's engine bay,
what's going on with that pulley belt? looks like a supercharger belt.
Yes it does look like that, but whatever is going on it isn't that exotic. Greg would have mentioned a supercharger if it was there. Still, I need to back to Orinda Motors and ask some additional questions about this truck.
Stay tuned! . . . (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/tune_in_TV_emoticon.gif)

Pretty sure that Vette is a first generation model. Could be a 55 as that was the birth year of the Chev small block.
-
Dear Tom and mid-60s Buick fans with a taste for history,
Pretty sure that Vette is a first generation model. Could be a 55 as that was the birth year of the Chev small block.
That's what I gleaned from the Wikipedia article on the Corvette:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvette (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvette)
That wasn't enough to pin down a year though.
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:
-
The Corvette is either a 1956 or 1957. They are almost indistinguishable on the outside. The 56 had a 265 V8 and the 57 had a 283. Again, indistinguishable by just looking at them.
Dan

Looks like a 69 or 70 Charger there too. I believe the vette is a 57 with a dual quad 283.

Dear mid-60s Buick owners with still a bit of d'em Wintertime blues, . . .
It sounds like Spring is starting show up in even the most Northern locations, but this was good neat to pass up. Better still this one was completely in "da' wild!" I photographed it at a local supermarket. If my wagon was running, she probably could have gotten this assignment, so classic car season has definitely arrived to California. Here it is!

It is a Ford Tudor that has been done up as a hot-rod. It is a long time resident, but I don't know much about it because it doesn't come to the Orinda Classic Car show all the time. Here is the side view:

It is interesting how the owner had to put the registration stickers on the car itself since the period plate has no space for them. I like the "Let's take it easy" sticker to the right of the plate.
Finally here is a view of the interior:

Dear mid-60s Buick lovers who are starting to get into the Springtime spirit,
Soon there will be plenty of car show photos on this forum . . . . I hope! . . . (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/pray.gif)
However until then, I have one more photo to contribute to this thread because - honestly - I can't believe it myself! (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/shocked_crazy.gif)

There is a sign like this on each door of a enclosed, light-duty truck being used by a contractor on a home remodel. I've seen it several times and was taken aback by it on every occasion. Today I could sneak over and grab this photo so I did. Of course this has nothing to do with Buicks, but in my mind that's a feature. If I saw a sign: "Buicks wanted: dead or alive," I might take offense! . . :violent1:
For everyone's puzzlement this Friday afternoon/evening . . . . :icon_scratch:
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

You won't see a sign like that for Buick's, because Buick's are very reliable and easy to maintain... :icon_thumright:

Dear mid-60s Buick owners who get d'em wintertime blues, . . .
It is the first of December, so I assume any car that has to be put away for the winter is probably stored by now. Definitely the first symptoms of classic car withdrawal are setting in. Well, there is no substitute for driving your classic, but pics do help. I have a Rivera that was at Orinda Classic Car as the first dose of "medicine."
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-Fz9ZF5r/0/02ab790f/XL/Buick%20Rivera%20-%20front-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-Fz9ZF5r/A)
As I am rather narrowly focused on 1965 Buick Special wagons, I'll allow the experts to assess year, trim level, condition, and all that good stuff. Here is the driver's side view:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-q2XFSXX/0/57dde71c/XL/Buick%20Rivera%20-%20port-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-q2XFSXX/A)
Finally here is the back:

Of course all are invited to contribute "medicine" to chase away d'em classic car blues. Any classic car picture will due: old car shows, car's you've owned in the past, etc. It's all good!
Contributions to this tread are most definitely solicited! :hello2:

I love the 69 Riviera!! 430 4bbl. TH400-X frame. I remember doing all five u-joints on the driveshaft!!!
I had a 68 back in the 80's. I loved it!! only a few subtle differences between the two years.
The road salt ruined my car...…
This is my next restoration. A 61,000 mile, 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.
I wanted the 77 Regal, but I knew I would not have sold it, when through...

Thanks for sharing the pictures of your next restoration David! You make a good point. If you are going to restore a car to sell it, it is best not to acquire one that you won't be willing to sell in the end!

Ok , how about this for a pick-me-up. Nothing better than getting Married and driving Buick's all in the same day ! That's Karen & I sitting in the back seat of my GS on our wedding day way back on a HOT August day in 1996 in Rosedale Queens NYC. :laughing7: We did not use Limo's to transport the bridal party and Parents around, I had my Friends bring there Vintage Buick's. Like a Buick show and a wedding at the same time. That's also My 69 Riviera behind the GS. There was another photo showing the church parking lot full of vintage Buick's but i can't find it. if i do i will post it.

Dear mid-60s Buick owners with d'em Wintertime blues . . . .
It's been a few days since some fresh pics have been posted to this topic so I'll offer up another example of a classic from the 1960s - a Valiant wagon!
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-wnKstPN/0/727d2438/XL/Plymouth%20valiant%20wagon%20-%20starboard%20front-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-wnKstPN/A)
This specimen is clearly original and a bit weary, but still soldiering on. I don't know the year - can somebody figure that out? Here is the back:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-NJCVfjm/0/e7383550/XL/Plymouth%20valiant%20wagon%20-%20starboard%20rear-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-NJCVfjm/A)
Clearly this is a budget model with the manual tailgate window crank. Still everything is together considering the car's age. Here is the interior:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-LQN7LzP/0/c98aaa75/XL/Plymouth%20valiant%20wagon%20-%20interior-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/ClassicandCustomAutomobiles/Classic-cars-at-large/Misc-classic-vehicle-photos/i-LQN7LzP/A)
The aftermarket seat-covers brought back memories of Biquette's seats having similar covers to hide worn out upholstery. It's not a Buick, but it is a classic car with a story and should bring some memories for many of us.
Anyone else got a classic car picture squirreled away that they would like to share?
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

I took my driving test, way back in 1977, in my Dad's 1967 Plymouth Valiant. 2-door post, Slant Six automatic, no power steering or brakes. Car is still in my neighborhood, we gave to a friend of ours as a project to get running with his 12 year old son. I need to find out how they are doing with it.
Looking for photos to post, along with photos of the 1960 Rambler Super that my Mom learned to drive in back in 1965. Just got rid of that car a few months ago. And a 1972 Chevy Suburban that my sister rescued from my Dad's garage and got running again as a tribute to him (he just recently passed back in February, so we've been doing a bit of clean-up around the house for my Mom).

Dear Keith and 65GS.com strollers down memory lane,
Thanks for sharing your memories of cars you have driven or been involved with. This time of year has also jogged some fresh memories of my trusty wagon and my family. Back in my the 70’s my best bud had a ‘63 valiant wagon with the slant 6 and, get this, a factory floor shifted three speed manual trans. It was by far the ugliest car of anyone in our group and the subject of many jokes. When we referred to it’s lazy 6 he would remind us that it had a “leaning tower of power” instead. As ugly as it was it was the most reliable ride in our circle of misfits and the one we would all pile in when we had neighborhoods to terrorize. Thanks for helping bring back some fond memories.

Dear mid-60s Buick owners who suffer from d'em wintertime blues . . . . .
Sorry, it has almost been a month since I "restocked" this thread. One of the crew at Orinda Classic Car was out with a knee replacement so I wasn't able to give him his Christmas card until today. So I suppose it is appropriate that I snapped this belated scene in front of Orinda Motors:
(https://photos.smugmug.com/Biquette/Photos-of-Biquette/Photos-of-Biquette-in-Winter-2018-19/i-NZbw7vs/0/c58c2c95/XL/Biquettte%20and%20decorated%20pickup%20truck%20at%20OM-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/Biquette/Photos-of-Biquette/Photos-of-Biquette-in-Winter-2018-19/i-NZbw7vs/A)
Apparently the owners of this truck had grander plans in terms of Christmas decorations. They had a string of Christmas lights that plugged into the cigarette lighter, but they never got around to putting them on the outside of the truck.
As always, contributions to this thread are always solicited. My trusty wagon did her duty hauling 110 pounds of bird seed and on the way we encountered not 1 but 2 classics: a smallish British-styled sports car and a 1950s Chevy pickup. However, Northern California is supposed to be in for an extended period of rain. So classic cars will be waiting out the weather for at least all of next week.
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

Very nice Tony! We had car wedding too but had to use our Coronet R/T as the wedding since someone knocked the rear end of the 66 GS at the time. Other wedding lineup cars were 68 SS 396 Chevelle, 65 GTO, 66 Impala, 69 6 pack Super Bee, 57 Corvette. Others joined in too on the through town procession.

We had a fun time in Florida a couple of weeks ago. My head was spinning with so many beautiful vintage cars to see.
We spent a few hours at Muscle Car City. It was the last Saturday of our stay, but what a bonus day. Not only was there a great indoor display, but there was also an outdoor show.
The indoor display at Muscle Car City is one mans personal collection. It comprises primarily of Chevrolets with a few other marques as well. Unfortunately, not a Buick in the lot. His collection of Corvettes starts with a 1954 and runs consecutively into the '80s. Every vehicle on display was show car condition.

Loren, on your sugustion we visited Muscle Car City earlier this week while we were staying in Fort Myers Beach. Lots of muscle under one roof, I think almost every car was a big block.. Thanks for the recommendation..
We also enjoyed some parasailing over the Gulf and thought of our friends battling the Polar Vortex.

Kevin (and Angie),

Edouard, I truly did think of my friends in the northern tundras grip of winter and with reservation delayed posting until temperatures moderated. Having grown up in Minnesota and spent time north of the Aritc Circle in the Navy I know how bitter -50 with strong winds can be.
Chuck, we just made the discussion we needed to get away for the first time in several years. We’ve left Florida and are on our way to Texas were we will visit three Presidential libraries, then on to Arizona to visit with friends from of all places Minnesota.
So we’re heading west in search of sunshine, warmth and muscle cars.
Stay warm guys..

Thanks Kevin. Travel safely!! :icon_thumright:

Hey Kevin, sounds like an extended road trip going on there. I can totally relate to the need to get away. I'm happy the Doc's extended my leash a bit to allow us to get to Florida finally. It is , what it is.

Dear mid-60s Buick owners who suffer from d'em wintertime blues,
I'm finally starting to get settled into my new Mac and at last I can access my photo collection once more. It is also been a particularly cold and nasty February all across the country. So it is time to pull out my secret reserve. In this case a beautiful Buick Special convertible from the mid-50s!

That is a '54 Buick Skylark. The '53 looks very similar. The front wheel well opening on the '54 sweeps back much more exposing the inner wheel housing, compared to the '53. I'm sure there are more differences that I am not aware of.

Dear 65GS.com faithful,
I have an update on a "story" I told in this thread over a year ago. Then I posted this picture of a home with this very own bone yard:

Here is the original posting that includes some photos of the restored Nash Metropolitan that was the beneficiary of these spare parts:

Alas the Metropolitan did not show up at last year's Orinda Classic Car show and today I noticed that the house with the bone-yard had been sold. Here is a photo:

You can see in the upper left that the shed where all those parts were stored in the previous photo is completely cleaned out. I don't know what happened to the owners, but I do hope the Metropolitan and all those spare parts found another good home.
Cheers, Edouard

Dear mid-60s Buick caregivers,
Sorry, I've been delinquent in restarting this thread as the cold weather set in. Alas, it has been a really tough year here in California and more locally. However, I dropped off the Christmas cookies at Orinda Motors and look at what was being serviced at Orinda Classic Car!

Okay, so it isn't a 1964-66 Buick, but I think it deserves at least honorable mention! Here is the driver's side:

Things haven't been particularly nice to Biquette either, but I might try to get her out on Friday. If this Buick hasn't been retrieved by its owner, I might try for a photo-op!
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

Nice looking '67! Ya moving on up?? That ol' Skylark has honest to gosh real wire wheels; possibly TRU-SPOKE? The used to be really expensive. Nowadays, I wonder what the dollar to Gulag buck is going for? Bill

Dear mid-60s Buick caregivers with d'em classic car blues,
Alas, these days d'em classic car blues seems to be hanging year around. Worse still, while some folks are getting their classics on the road, finding one that isn't moving isn't likely. Add to that restrictions on movement and seeing a classic car is really unlikely. Fortunately for me, I spotted this Chrysler New Yorker in the parking lot where I was doing the weekly grocery shopping:

I'm not sure of the exact year, but my guess is before 1949. After that Chrysler gave up on the suicide rear doors. Here is a view from the back:

Overall the car is in great shape for its age.
I hope it brings a smile to your face!
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:
P.S. Tony will have to explain to us how this New Yorker ended up completely on the far end of da' left coast! . . . :laughing7:
