As you have probably seen in Kevin's (Rollaround) post on the Northwest Ohio Get Together, the venue will be changing this year. Geography is being amended so that the Northwest Ohio meet can be held in Southwest Michigan. I hope that's not confusing to anyone and, if it is, just look at it as payback for Ohio taking Toledo from Michigan. :icon_biggrin:
The meet will be held at our home in Ceresco, MI (near Battle Creek) on Saturday, September 23. We can also plan to continue our time together by attending the Gilmore Car Museum on Sunday, September 24. The Gilmore will be into the second day of the Cadillac-LaSalle Club Museum's annual Fall Festival on that day. It will be an opportunity to not only enjoy the Gilmore Museum collection, but also view what is expected to be a large number of classic Cadillac's and Lasalles that will be in attendance.
More info will be coming soon. In the meantime, it will be helpful if those planning to attend will respond in this thread so that we can plan to adequately provide for all in attendance.
It might not be Ohio, but 65 GS's will still be the theme, and we will continue the outstanding camaraderie that this group so enjoys.
Hoping to see many of you then!
:cheers2:

Chuck, will be there of course. Kevin and i had discussed the event and had somewhat of a plan. I will call you to talk about it.

Thanks Glenn. I'll look forward to it. Let's make it next week some time. I'm gone for the weekend.

We've discovered that many of the hotels in Battle Creek have jacked up their rates because Notre Dame is playing football at Michigan State on the night of September 23 and Battle Creek is apparently a desirable in between location to overnight. I did a quick search and found that the Best Western seems to have a reasonable rate. Dan has booked it at $105/night including taxes. Any interested in overnighting might want to check it out. Let the group know if you come up with other reasonable alternatives. The Hampton and Holiday Inn are priced at about $160 for that night.....

Our reservations are made at the Best Western.
Hey Chuck, I any chance you Michiganders would be interested in taking Toledo back?

Remember to make your calender for the Northwest Ohio get together at Chuck's place on September 23th. A day filled with discussions about our beloved cars. What better way to spend a fall Saturday. Also planning a trip to the Gilmore museum on Sunday while a Club show is going on. Don't miss the fun.

Now that Labor Day is behind us and the rest of September ahead, this event will be sneaking up on us soon. We're looking forward to it and hope that many of our 65 GS friends will join us.
To recap the plans for the weekend -
Friday, September 22: Those coming from long distance with a planned overnight can meet up for drinks and dinner at a local eatery/drinkery.
Saturday, September 23: Get together at the Miller residence to look over a few cars, talk a lot of cars and just enjoy the company of fellow enthusiasts. We'll have a cookout in the afternoon as well for some social time and nourishment.
Sunday, September 24: Trip (cruise?) to The Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners. This is the largest car museum in the country and the vehicles on display are all true eye candy, with some interesting history included. This will be the second day of the annual Cadillac/LaSalle meet, so we will also have the opportunity to view a larger collection of these vehicles that will be there for the meet.
Want to bring your classic Buick? Absolutely, we always love to get them together for a drool-fest. And there will be space to park some trailers on site if anyone wants to trailer a car. But the main point is to be together as a group of friends with a shared passion. So don't let the lack of a classic car or inclement weather keep you away. And for those of you in the eastern part of Ohio, Michigan or Illinois, northern Indiana, (and yes, even Wisconsin ) please consider joining us. Could be a fun road trip to add to the event. I'll post more information on location, etc. as we get closer to the 23rd.
To aid with preparation, it would be helpful to get a projected headcount of those that plan to attend. Please post here if you plan to attend and include the number in your party.
We're looking forward to a fun event with lots of old and new friends!

Chuck has hit it on the head. A super weekend planned in Southern Michigan. For you Ohio guys, don't let the location scare you. Weather should be great and the trip to the Gilmore on Sunday is something you do not want to miss and Saturday at Chuck's place will be a good time. Get your name on the list so we know how to plan.

Won't make it this year unfortunately. Planning on being there in 2019. Please take pics for the write-up I hope to see in the Bugle!

Arrangements for the meet:
Saturday, September 23: We'll plan to start around 10 am. Timing isn't precise; come later if you like. There's no specific format for the meet. Mainly, just getting together to talk Buicks, ask questions, look at cool cars and enjoy our shared passion. We'll have snacks and drinks to tide us over until a cookout in late afternoon. Bring any alcoholic beverages that you'd like to enjoy. We have a fridge that can be used to keep 'em cold. Drive your Buicks if you would like to share them with the group. Or bring them in or on a trailer. Parking for cars and trailers is available. Bring any Buick documents/memorabilia/etc. that you like to share. Also, if you have parts you'd like to sell or swap, bring 'em along!
Sunday, September 24: For those interested, we'll meet for breakfast in Battle Creek, then convoy out to the Gilmore Car Museum. We'll spend the day (or as much as you'd like) enjoying the museum and the second day of the Annual Cadillac LaSalle Club meet that will be there. Info on the Gilmore can be found here: https://www.gilmorecarmuseum.org (https://www.gilmorecarmuseum.org)
Please feel free to bring spouses if you (and they) like. Directions are attached. Note that our road tends to be very rough and is partly unpaved, so take care in your approach.
Looking forward to seeing many of you soon!

Thanks Chuck,

All
If there is anyone still setting on the fence trying to decide if they should attend this get together or not
Please DO!!!
I had the pleasure of attending last year and it was really great.
The location, motels, food, local history and 65GS hospitality was first rate.
We attended the Gilmore on a non show day but the Cadillac show should add a whole new dimension.
We also attended the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum with the Truck Museum located right behind it.
In Minnesota we don't have this level of museum quality car viewing so I really enjoyed this opportunity.
Unfortunately I wont be able to join you this year but I will be looking forward to your pictures.
Have FUN!

That's a really great shot Chuck! If that doesn't get 65GS fans drooling, I don't know what would! :laughing7:

Add a gorgeous 63 Riv to the mix....after all, it's a Buick too!
-
Five classic Buicks, seven Buick enthusiasts and wives and we had a great day. In addition to old friends Kevin and Angie Champagne, Glenn Vinz, Bob and Mary Ann Bowen, and Dan and Dee Breckenridge, Connie and I welcomed Boyce Jones and his 455-powered 65 GS and Dick Lackey with his 63 Riviera. It was a very enjoyable day with lots of Buick talk, review of our cars, a parts car and a restoration in progress, as well as good food and drink. Kevin brought commemorative wood plaques for us to document the event. I got a red one to celebrate my Flame Red car!
Temperatures were in the 90s, but this group was too cool to be overheated by Mother Nature! Sitting outside in the shade with a nice breeze, this bunch didn't head for the comfort of the A/C in the house until the dinner bell rang.
Thanks to all for joining and making it so enjoyable. Until next year.....
:cheers2:

And finally, a few "vanity shots"......

Chuck,
Great pics! Really like Green/Saddle car. And with redlines, very nice.

Special thanks to Chuck and Connie for opening up their home and hoisting this years Get-Together. It was great time to see friends and meet new ones.
The Gilmore trip was very interesting and will provide memory's for all.
Here's a couple pixs from the museum and then there's the secret message on your parts car.
Weekends like this motivate me to spend more time on my project, I'm headed there now.

Chuck,
Great pics! Really like Green/Saddle car. And with redlines, very nice.

The Verde Green/Saddle car belongs to Bob Bowen. Can't wait to get it acquainted with my Verde Green/White/White convertible next year!

Chuck , Thanks for sharing with us .
Nice shots of the cars there . Like you I can,t wait to add some more Verde green to the mix .

Thanks Chuck for taking the torch and keeping the get together going. Wish we could have made it also. Too many things going and coming up.
Looks like the Verde Howitzer was originally scheduled to not have a white top. Neat thing to find.
Loren

That picture that Kevin posted wasn't the Verde Howitzer, it was the Arkansas parts car firewall. The Verde Howitzer came from the factory with Arctic White exterior, Black interior and Black convertible top. I think that's a pretty boring color palette and I know John E. agrees! :laughing7:
Good to keep the meet going and had a ball doing it. Time will tell in which state the next Northwest Ohio Get Together is held :dontknow: :laughing7:
:cheers2:

Regarding the firewall markings, it appears that they were ignored. The markings read: "Change top to White". And there is a big "R-1" (Flame Red with White top) marked as well. The trim tag shows Paint Code R-2 (Flame Red with black top). But we're sure the vinyl top we peeled off was original and it was Black. So much for the apparent attempt at last minute change on the line!
And, so much for assuming that these cars came off the line as their Trim Tags report!

Thanks for sharing, looks like a great time!

Missed all the fun darn it! Got to get to Gilmore for sure someday! :headbang:
