Hi, I haven't been on for a while, but now things are slowing down a bit, I would like to make my GS a bit more original. I would like locate a good Carter AFB carb, #s 3921S, 4180 S, or 4053S. Also need a micro switch (trying to get Switch Pitch going) Trans switch is missing power wire as well as one other. The 2 on the rear of the switch are there. Any help on parts or wiring would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The carburetor is fairly easy to find.

As for the micro switch and wiring, need some more pictures. There should be two wires that go down to the transmission. Usually a black one and a white one that are attached together, called parallel wires. The power for the switches comes out of the engine harness a yellow or orange wire. Don't recall which right now. Sometimes that power wire is broken off at the point it exits the wrapping on the harness.
I make new harnesses for '65 and now '66 Gran Sports, if you need that. I may have a micro switch, but would need to look.
Hope that is of help,
Loren

Her are 4 pics. Hope it helps. Thanks. Tom

I am interested in the micro. I have tried numerous times to send pics. I have reduced them in the hopes of them getting through. I am going to try one more time. Thanks. Tom

Here are some pictures for you.
First picture is of the complete system. The kick down switch, micro switch and all the wiring.
jpeg pictures 1412 and 1415 are the micro switch and the micro switch mounted to the accelerator linkage.
jpeg picture 1413 is the connector that attaches to the transmission from the kick down switch.
jpeg picture 1414 is the connector for the power to this system. It is hard wired to the kick down switch on one end and connects to a lead from your engine harness, commonly a yellow wire. Have also seen it as an orange wire.
You did not mention whether or not you have the original ST300 transmission.

It looks like you have the micro switch.
Yes you are correct that it is necessary to reduce the picture size to post pictures. There is a neat program that will do that for you. See post reply 1 in this thread : http://65gs.com/board/index.php/topic,103.msg638.html#msg638 (http://65gs.com/board/index.php/topic,103.msg638.html#msg638)

I have the ST 300. How much for the complete setup shown? Are there any calibrations that need to be done on the switches? I also was wondering if this setup would work properly with my current carb?

By gosh it is there. Still interested in complete setup. upon looking at the plunger(I call it) the 2 rear terminals, the top one appears to go down to the trans, although I have to get under to see, the other one below it loops around the PS booster and is connected (grounded?) to the voltage regulator.
-
Tom,
That helps to know that you still have the correct transmission. Some have been replaced with a later model 400. I will check out the setup that is pictured to make sure it works correctly. If it is all good, you're looking at $175 plus the shipping. The micro switches are a relatively hard part to find ingood condition. Usually the mounting point at the bottom is broken from incorrect installation. The kick down switch can get corroded internally and become inoperative. I just haven't taken the time to check this setup since I got it.
Yes there are adjustments to both the micro switch and the kick down switch so they operate correctly. The instructions are in both service manuals for the Skylarks and the full size cars. If you don't have a service manual, they can be accessed in our "Documents" section.
Not real sure how well it will work with your present carburetor. Just need to try it.

Sounds like someone got really creative.

Tom, Thank you much. Please let me know. Meanwhile, I will get under car to check our where it plugs into trans. With only one wire going down, that means the other was cut.

Loren, I took some pics. The Trans does not look to me to be a switch pitch setup. I have taken some pics. The trans pan has 14 bolts if that helps. That 2nd wire I mentioned is connected to the positive side of the relay.
-
Tom,
It looks like you have the correct transmission for your '66 GS.
I say that because your first picture shows the correct connector that is used on a ST 300 transmission. Another clue is in picture 4. On the right hand upper area of the picture is the low servo cover. It appears to have "NK" stamped on it. You can check that to be sure I am reading that correctly. I am still having some issues when reading.
I attached a picture of a ST 300 transmission pan. It is unique to the ST300. Notice the area that extends out at the rear of the pan where the vacuum modulator is.

I will have to look at the pan again tomorrow. What threw me was the electrical connection on the trans. I thought it should have 2 wires going into it where Mine has one.
-
Loren, I looked at that #1 pic again under magnification. It appears there is another terminal above the one wire that is already attached. Terminal blades must be a kind of T shape. I will look at the pan again tomorrow too.
-
Tom, the ST 300 does have two wires that connect to that "T" terminals. One is for the switch pitch solenoid the other is for the kick down solenoid.
The real determining factor is the code on the low servo cover. In that picture , it looks to be "NK". That code is correct for a '65 or '66 GS.
Loren

I will definitely check that code. Sure looks like NK from the pics. I'm glad I thought to photo that side. So did someone wire it so at least the trans kick down would work when using passing gear?
-
That is what it looks like Tom.
Loren
-
Loren, It does say NK on the trans, and the trans pan is exactly like the one in the pic you sent me. I would like the complete setup . Once you know it is functional, let me know how to arrange payment. My zip is 43511. Thanks. Tom

Tom,
I checked it out and the micro switch works good. But when I took the aftermarket plastic loom cover I found breaks in the wire insulation.
The kick down switch works well. I rewired the kick down switch and installed new terminals on the connector of the micro switch.
Here is a picture of the finished setup.
If you are good with that , let me know and I can get it on the way once I have your shipping information. USPS medium Priority is $13.60. Makes a total of $188.60. Will pm my Paypal address to you.

Loren, I found an orange power wire right where you said it would be. It has power only when the key is in the run position. I checked it twice. Shouldn't it have at least been taped off on the end? It was just hanging loose. Going to attach a pic to this.
-
Yes , it should have had something on it. It should have a different terminal though, not a flag terminal.
I will send you an email with pictures of what you should have to connect to the switch power terminal.
