Title: Factory spare wheel color
Post by: Buick_65 on February 11, 2017, 04:03:03 PM
Anyone got a cherry original spare?  If so, what color is the wheel?  Thanks in advance.

Todd,

The spare I have is original to my GS complete with the original Firestone white wall.
It is gloss black, but not a high gloss. If that makes sense.

If it's a steel wheel car the spare would be the factory gloss black ! even if the car was ordered with body colored wheels and dog dish hub caps!
If the car was ordered with the chrome road wheels it would be the dark silver center and It would have a chrome spare.

Jon,

Have you ever seen body colored wheels on a '65 GS  from the factory?

Thanks guys. Black it is. My GS came with the spoked wheel covers like a special. Not sure why as they are not listed as an option in anything I've seen. Maybe it's another Fremont production oddity?

Todd,
The wire caps were an option for the GS. I know John Egel's GS had the wire caps originally.
The standard had the holes around the mid area.

Interesting. Everything I've read, including the bugle write up on the 65 GS, left that out.
