Title: Radiator core support ?
Post by: 35chevcoupe on January 24, 2017, 01:40:48 PM
Got the radiator core support cleaned up but noticed something different from the one on my parts car . Is this flat piece of steel factory or is this something someone added on ?
The support on my parts car does not have it .

That was most definitely added by a previous owner and is not supposed to be there.

Thanks Brian , Thats what I thought .
I think I,ll take the other core support off and clean that one up to see which one is in better shape .   The one that came on the car does have some rusted out areas .
( probably the reason for the extra brace  )

John,

I think we are on the same track. I just got my frame back last week and started blasting my core support today.  My core support needs some work before it's ready for paint, I need to replace the headlight frames.

Whoever did that repair to your core support put some time into it.

If someone is looking for a not rust out one I have a nice one from a Skylark, that can be used to repair a GS.

Yeah Kevin I thought the repair was actually pretty good . they did spend some time measuring and tapping the holes .
This one is repairable but I have another one that I think is better .
I still have a loooongg way to go on the body though .

I also have a good set of headlight bucket brackets,  if someone needs them.

I started my core support repair today.  Both headlight frames are in bad shape. If it goes well I'll be ok, if not I'll be looking for core support parts.

Walt
Yes it is and it fit very nicely.   Both head light frames are now removed and the core support is back in the blast cabinet. Hopefully I can do some welding on it tomorrow.
