Dear mid-60s Buick observers of the new sharing economy,
There was an extremely odd entry in this month's Hagerty email newsletter. It was a report on a ride sharing service similar to AirBnB, but intended for classic and exotic cars. Here is a link to the article:

The article caught my attention because the author decided to rent a Buick Skylark convertible. However, what really shunned me is that this truly is a sharing service for classic cars. :icon_scratch: You can see the website for the service for yourself:

I don't know about you guys, but I won't even let family members drive my trusty wagon. Nonetheless, clearly there are classic and exotic car owners willing to hand over the keys to a complete stranger.
There is a reason why this article was featured in Hagerty's newsletter. This service has an extensive insurance arrangement with Hagerty's and if your classic were to be damaged while rented, you could expect the first classic Hagerty response that you would get as a Hagerty insurance user.
Still, while the idea of using the service to drive something I otherwise could never drive does appeal to me a bit, sharing my trusty wagon? Request denied!! :violent1:
Like it or not, we all probably should be aware of it.

Interesting. I once got to experience "World Class Driving". They bring 5 exotic cars to your
location and you drive each one for about a half hour. In my case we drove from Minneapolis to New Ulm for lunch, then drove back changing seats along the way. It was great. Not sure they still do that but they still offer it in Las Vegas. The day we did it we had a Ferrari, a Lamborghini convertible, a Noble, a Porsche, a Benltley, and a McLaren SLR Mercedes. When I went the event was put on by one of our vendors for 6 of us. Great idea for bachelor parties instead of activities that can get you in trouble. They give you a disc full of pictures of your group driving and some other swag. Very memorable experience.

Now that's a service I have no problem with. A company that has cars dedicated to providing a driving experience can take care of the cars and insure them reasonably. What I really dislike about the classicsandexotics.com service is that it is the automobile equivalent of forcing your wife into prostitution. If you have a classic you might allow your friends to drive it, but handing the keys to a complete stranger - that just rubs me the wrong way.
