Title: Firewall Tag Mystery
Post by: Chris on July 21, 2009, 04:52:11 PM
Ok guys, this should provide some interesting discussion.

You may have seen threads started on this before, but I don't think I've ever seen an agreed upon answer... so here we go....

On some firewall tags, there is a star stamped on the tag that we've been unable to identify it's purpose.

Some have speculated that it might stand for "special paint" however I've never seen anyone ever verify this.

I'm including a picture from my four speed GS post sedan so you all can see what I'm talking about.  I'm pretty sure that the color is the what the tag says it is (Burgundy Mist) and this might rule out the "special paint" theory unless the special paint was somewhere else on the car that I'm not aware of or she was repainted at some time.

Let the discussion begin....   ;D

Chris, I'll have to check my cowl plate picture collection, ::), but I believe that may only be on Flint built cars??? I have seen 66 plates with the star as well...

Rivieras also have the star on the tag and no one has come up with a answer.I don't think it indicates a Flint built car.    Tom

Yeah, we haggled over this on the ROA forum also awhile ago & NO ONE has been able to come up with an answer. My '64 Riv. that I bought new has this star on the cowl tag also & it's just a normal "D" Silver Cloud color.
