Title: Need a little help on 401 engine position in a Slylark
Post by: EZ Cool on June 22, 2016, 03:23:43 PM
I am in the process of building motor mounts for my 65 Skylark. I have the front end off the car and have an extra bare 401 block and SP400 trans that I am using for mock up. Below are a few pictures of where it sets now. On the drivers side the head surface is about an inch from the firewall. On the passenger side its about 2 inches. The boss where the distributor sets is about an inch from the firewall. Can anyone give me some accurate measurements in any of these locations of a factory install?

After I get the mounts fabbed the body is coming off the frame.

You have it too far back. Should be about 3 inches on the drivers side and at the distributor and 4 inches on the passenger side. Good luck.

Why not get the plates from a GS that adapt the front mounting pad on the engine to the cross member? These come up on Ebay or on this forum.  I have an extra set of mounts that are unique to this application.

Thanks for the reply. Sent you a PM about the mounts.
