I just saw an endorsement for Tom's roller rockers in HOT ROD Magazine, Test and Tune section, page 109. Congratulations Tom!

I guess people ain't ready to crack open their wallefs
yet.
Hopefully thing will change soon.
I'm still out of work. Their isn't enough jobs going on in the city yet.

I have my Telesco's on the 401 fro my '65 GS.
I cannot wait to fire it up in the car-its been
on the dyno april of '08-I got to get off my bum
and finish this
-
These will go on all three of my GS's that I intend on keeping for my long term collection.
Unfortunatly I'm not at the engine stage with any of the three cars and my money is being focused on other things like paint, wheels, weather stipping ec..
I'm not much of an "engine guy" so I'll probably end up farming out most of the work and simple have the engines rebuilt around the rockers (one engine at a time of couse as a winter project to ensure my car is around for summer cruising.
My plan is to bite the bullet and focus on the engines closer to the Spring / Fall of 2010 time frame.
Can't wait!!!!!

Did you order these yet and if so, do you mind telling us what you paid for them? Is there anything other than the rockers that you need when installing these?
The convertible has a tick at start-up that eventually goes away so I figure it's best now to replace the cam, timing set, lifters, push rods, rockers and maybe the oil pump this Spring.
Thanks,
Chris

Have not contacted Tom as of yet, going to wait until I finish paying for Xmas. Also considering looking at the TA set.

Chris,
A dual quad setup might fix that. I'd try that first. If that doesn't work headers would be my next guess. Only as a last resort would I go with the items you mentioned. :laughing7:

Dan,
I thought you was going to suggest something like a louder stereo but I could see how a dual quad and header set would fix an engine tick on start-up. :overthetop:
Chris

Chris,
Not sure how bad the ticking is at start up but the nailheads have been known to have oiling issues. Not sure its worth the cost of all that you mentioned if its just a lifter that takes a bit of time to pump up. Hopefully someone more mechanically skilled than myself will chime in.

Dan,
I thought about just replacing the lifters, pushrods and rocker arms to make sure there is minimal lash in the upper end of the motor which can occur as the rocker tips wear down and lifters pick up gunk. I thought about replacing the oil pump with one of the modified oil pumps that helps addressing the oiling issues. If I recall, these are also sold by Tom and the holes are drilled out to deal with an alignment problem from the factory. I get really nervous driving a car going on fifty years old with what I'm sure is the original oil pump and I'm sure the screen has never been cleaned out.
The roller rockers, cam and timeing set are all wish list items that I'd add if money still permits. I also have a sagging coil on the rear drivers side that needs replaced, a crack in the dash ($600 - Just Dashes) and my rocker trim really needs a face lift (anyone have a really nice set for sale?).
Just a few touches to turn an already nice car into a really nice car. :)

Chris,
I have a 'driver quality' dash pad. No cracks, but no graining either. Already sprayed black. Priced right too.

For rear coils, I'm using Moog 6197 on my 66's. They're near stock height, maybe a touch higher, which works well if you have larger tires in the rear.
They're on sale at Amazon for only $35.65 a pair!!! Couple that with the free shipping option and it's a killer deal!

Another fix for a sag is to install some spacers such as big washers or metal plates between the coil spring and the mount on the rear.

Bought mine from Tom a few years ago and they were over $900 for the bare rockers. The original stands, spacer springs, and shafts can be reused. Tom can also provide new, thicker rocker shafts.
TA Performance lists a ready-to-bolt-on setup for $1050. These do not fit under the cast aluminum 'BUICK' valve covers.

Let's talk about this my friend. :confused3:
Please shoot me a price over private message and I'll check and see if I can return a couple of my wifes Christmas presents and come up with the money to buy it from you. :laughing7:
Looks like a really nice part Dan and all I'd need to do is respray it red.

Thanks Walt
A local shop quoted me $125 for labor to install a new set if I provided the parts so at $160 bucks it sounds like a wise investment to fix it correctly and not worry about it for another 40 years. :)
I'd do this in my own shop but between not having a lift and the right tools, having the shop deal with it is money in the bank as far as I'm concerned minus the headache of any rusted bolts.
Thanks again,
Chris

Chris,
To replace the rear springs should be no more than 15 minutes per side. The bottom retainer for the spring comes off, and the shock needs to be disconnected at the bottom. Spring pops right out.
Another option is Espo for the springs. I bought from them based on several recommendations on this forum, and am pretty happy with the ride height, even with many pieces still to go in. I think it cost around $90 to my door from Espo, which is in PA.
