Got, a buddy who is building a nail head with a quad set-up doesn't have the stock carbs
and is not concerned with original ,but is wanting ideas on cfm and options to use on the stock manifold and wasn't sure what to tell him! Just wants something that will work and run good! :headbang: Thanks!

Does he want new aftermarket carbs or is he considering rebuilding a pair of 60's era AFB's?
New carbs are expensive, figure $700 for a pair of 600cfm Edelbrocks, one with electric choke, one with manual choke.
500's would work, but you'll lose some top-end power. 600's are closer to stock size.
Tom likes a 600 for the primary and a 750 for the secondary for all around max performance.
He could find some 65-66 Buick 1x4 carbs and put a setup together for $200-300. Would have the benefit of having at least one carb with the correct gas pedal and trans linkage. They would generally be tuned better for a Buick engine as well.
60's-70's vintage aftermarket Carter AFB's are out there too. Can get some good buys on eBay.

I've attached a cheat sheet that I created when looking for stock carbs for my dual quad setup. Ignore the priorities; I'm not sure I'd rate them the same today. These are all Carter AFBs by model year and transmission. I'm running a 1964 pair specified for 425 automatic applications, but most any of the combinations should work. In fact, I've got a couple of mismatched Carter AFBs that I replaced with this pair if he's interested in buying a set to play around with. My understanding is all the Buick AFBs, at least for dual quads, are 625 CFM flow rate. So if he's interested in some other type of carb, that would be a good flow rate to look at. Of course, most anything from 500 CFM and up should work, but the factory spec was 625.

Its important to know if his car has a manual or automatic transmission. If manual he can use the aftermarket Edelbrock 1400 and 1405 Performer carbs that are 600cfm. A pair of good used ones on eBay would probably be about $500 - 550. If automatic then he would probably need at least one original style AFB to use the kick down linkage with.
Seems like Chuck might be able to help him out with original style AFB's.

Thanks so much for the help guys! This will help greatly with the decision of what to use ! Already found a 1400 series cheap and maybe get lucky and find another at the Jefferson swap next week! It will be a 401 turbo 400 combo in a 65 ' skylark post car! :rocker:
