Title: Paint Question Please
Post by: Joe65SkylarkGS on July 11, 2009, 11:41:12 PM
So I got my BPG newsletter and one of the only car stories, some guy, can't remember his name, says that he got paint in a spray can from paintscratches.com and they so stock colors. I looked briefly and think they want 25 plus shipping for an aerosol can.

Anyone try this??? ???

Hey Joe,

I've seen the factory colors in spray cans before and they are ok for small repair jobs if you can get everything to match perfectly.

The color can be changed by how it's mixed and you're hoping in this case that it was mixed correctly that day at the factory and by the fellow putting the paint in the spray can.

The obvious advantage of mixing it yourself is the cost and the ability to tweak the color after you've done your test shots before painting the car.  The other thing I'd worry about is the quality of the spray given that the plastic spray nozzles tend to clot up which usually ends up in your paint job.

Just my thoughts..

Chris

Never heard of them, so I had to take a look;

I have heard  this place being recommended a number of times:

Check with your local auto-paint supplier. Mine has the capability to custom mix paints and put it in an aerosol. taht way they can check the color before you pay for it.

One of the Spike TV shows had a segment on a DIY paint spray system. Mix the paint, add an aerosol can for propellant, and spray away!
You can watch full episodes online here: ;D

Are you trying to find a way to spray your interior?
I still haven't found good info for mixing up the correct interior color. Some things are overly difficult!
