Title: Motor mount adapter plate
Post by: cwmcobra on January 20, 2016, 06:46:44 AM
Does anyone have a spare that is available?  This is the cast iron plate that bolts to the engine block that the motor mount is then bolted to.  I broke one around the top front bolt hole taking the alternator bracket off.   :BangHead:

Thanks,

Chuck

Chuck,
Don't throw out the broken one.  These are a good quality material and can be repaired. A good welder can either weld it with a nickel rod or braze it back together.  These are rare enough that they are worth the effort to repair.

Brian is very right.

I read an article about a new welding rod for cast iron. Can't recall where it was though.

ALL great points!  I was going to suggest a partial swap..  If I find an extra good solid plate, I will send it to you and you send me yours along with the busted off piece.. I have a welder here that can weld anything...

Wheelz,

Do you have a solid plate to swap?  If so, I'm interested.

Here ya go Chuck!  As shown, this motor plate is EXCELLENT!  It is part of a set, and as promised, I will swap mine for yours.

So, how does this plan sound... To be reasonably fair, I'll send you mine, at my expense, you send me yours at your expense plus $65 to cover welding process to repair yours so I will once agian have a complete usable set.  Whaaa cheu say to that??

Basically you will be getting an excellent motor plate for $65.

Sound reasonable?

Learned that a long time ago as a mechanic.
Good practice, especially when trying to solve a car issue.

I may need a GS oil pan too.  Bought one from a local Buick guy over the weekend and once it was cleaned and sand blasted it was holy...and not in a good way :-)
He's trying to find another one, I told him if he can't come up with one by next Friday I will have to get one somewhere else.
Thanks
Dan

My apologies for not adding anything great to this thread but Livonia brings back good memories. We partied with these Livonia guys in this picture at the Street Machine Nationals in 1982. Since one's a Buick maybe it's you douillette! Those events used to get crazy.

.......Street Machine Nationals in 1982........

Jim, was that the Car Craft Street Machine Nationals?
I was THERE with my gold '66 GS.
I was going to college in Columbus, Ohio, in those years so the trip wasn't too far.
Went to Indy in 81, and Springfield in 82 & 83. I was living back in Pa in '84 for the CCSMN East in Syracuse, NY.
Those were great times. Lots of miles were put on that GS!

Yes Walt, it was the Car Craft Street Machine Nationals. We went several years to Springfield and I think DuQuoin. I must not have seen your GS, I would have a picture of it if I did.
