Hello
I have a 65 gs.. will you guys look at trim tag and photos.. want to make sure its a GS.. I hope these pics come through..It has a L R block ..it looks like a t in the middle of L and R.....the vin stamped in block is missing last 3 of vin.. the steering coupler is splined and there is no S on the trim tag... i have read here that the S is a good indicator except calif cars... this one came from flint.. I think.. Thanks in advance.. Steve

You have a Fremont ,CA built car. There will be no "S".
It was built the third week of January.
Original color combination was Red lower body with a black top. Also had a red interior.
Some other GS only things would be the front sway bar diameter and being it is a hardtop, the frame should be fully boxed.

The 'Z' in the engine code stamp denotes Fremont, CA build. Should also be one in the VIN.

Thank you, Dan
I should have pointed that out.

The Fremont tags were the only ones with the "Magic Mirror" notation at the bottom, and they are also the only plant that had
the hand stamped 2 digit number in the upper right corner. Do you have a pic of the engine compartment with air cleaner on?

Hard to see, but the 'BF' in the trim tag 'Body' location denotes the Fremont, Calif plant.
Flint plant used 'FB'.
Sometimes the engine code was mis-stamped on the 65-66 GS's.
Should be a LR code but some came through with LT codes. In your case, the LT was corrected to a LR.
LT and LR are the same engine with the exception of oil pan & pickup and exhaust manifolds.

Thanks for your help..... I messed up when I read flint on the trim tag...big sway bar,, boxed frame... what do you think about the stamp on the block not having last 3 of vin? Also the t in-between L and R... The factory air cleaner is under the bench,, what would you be looking for? again thanks,, I'm still not sure if I'm post this right.. steve

thank You.. I didn't see you answered my LT question..

How does the "5Z100... " on the block, compare to the VIN ?
Loren

Steve,
Anyone's guess on that.
