Looking for the spring that retracts the release bearing. It is the spring that goes on the bell housing shaft that operates the clutch. Anyone know which way the pilot bushing goes in?

There was a thread on the spring on V8Buick a long time ago.
We found one from one of the industrial suppliers that is close...McMaster-Carr , pn 9271K128.

Or you can check the parts book that is on this site, get the part number, and see if Buick Farm (or eBay) has something.
Here are some pics I have on file of an original.

I have not seen anyone making that spring. It is just a circular torsion spring with a hook on it that you may be able to duplicate. I believe the shaft is 1 inch as far as diameter. If someone has a pic you could tell the shape of it. Are you using a factory type pilot bushing?
-
Is that an original spring Walt? I was thinking that it fit very snug on the cross shaft.
-
Yes, factory type bushing. Looks like it could go in either way, I just need to know if the smaller end faces the crank or not.
-
I have an extra crank that still has the bushing in it. It is flat with the end of the shaft. I would install small in first and tap it in flush just like an axle seal.

Thanks for the info.
