Post by: nail lark on January 02, 2016, 01:24:40 PM
does anyone have a line on a oil pickup . I see CARS has one . The one I have looks like a melling but I'm not sure. This one looks like is has been damaged and fixed but I don't like the looks of it.

Carmen Faso used to make them with a larger pipe. Unsure if he still makes them, but they are available from Russ Martin on eBay:

Yup  it doesn't say if it is for a standard pan or deep sump.

Morrie, There were mid sump and rear sump pans for the Nailhead - no deep sump pans unless you made one. The one Walt linked is a rear sump that fits the rear sump pan of the 65-66 GS Skylark.  I bought one from Carmen a while back and I think it was about half the cost of that one. Just be careful of the flange and contact with the crank.  Mine needed a little grinding there.  You need to talk to Carmen if you have not yet. He is reasonable and knows his stuff, but is not on line - 716 693 4090.

As you can see, Carmen is one of the go to people for nailhead parts and information,  He use to race a '65 GS convertible.

He is also a good source for carb work.

He rebuilt the AFB for my 65 and the Q-Jet for my 66.  Both run perfectly and look like new.

Hey gang, sorry I'm late to the discussion. Let's start with Carmenn Fasco's # 716-693-4090. Second I still have the "stock" pick up from my #65 Skylark GS. (90% sure) Carmen "sumped" my stock pan  now hold 1 extra qt. and has no ground clearance issues. He made a really nice pickup to go with it.

Nice setup Jerry! That extended pickup looks similar to the one being sold on eBay by Russ/Buickrodder. Russ did sell parts he got from Carmen, that may still be the case.... the eBay oil pickup may be a Carmen piece.
