I,m on the hunt again for an original dearborn 3 speed trans for a 65 GS .
Found out the one I have is not correct , my throw out bearing came today and does not fit the front bearing retainer . :BangHead:
I will modify the one I have to make it work but would like to find an original one . So if someone has one laying around that they would sell I,M Interested .

John,
Dumb questions: are you sure you got the correct throwout bearing?
I had to replace the front bearing retainer in mine which required machining a retainer for a Ford application. Luckily, I had the correct bearing to use for measurements.
Our 3 speeds use an input shaft diameter that's in between the small and big block Ford diameters, which makes things fun.
You may have the correct trans with a different retainer.
Good luck.

Joe ,
I guess I can't be 100% sure that it,s the right one cause I don,t have an original to compare it to .
I just bought it off Ebay because it was the correct part number . I really think the 3 speed I have came out of a later BOP because of this bracket on the tailshaft .

That looks like a Hurst adapter plate. If it is trans could come from out of a GTO.

Your extension housing casting numbers are the same as mine. Does trans have a rat tag on it? It should be where the extension housing joins to trans. It should say RAT then numbers.

rat tag

The tag on mine says HEG , Ive tried decoding theses tranys but there is not a lot of info on the 3 speeds .

All I can tell you is the tail housing is a 65 casting. It could be used in later years. It is the first version . There is a thread in V8 that I got the info from. But like you said vague .
