Title: Battery Tray
Post by: cwmcobra on June 16, 2009, 09:04:05 PM
Having trouble finding used battery tray for the 65 GS.  Has anyone tried the one from Fusick?  I think it's correct.  Picture attached.

Any other suggestions?  This one is $48.50 I believe.

Thanks,

Chuck

I think that Dan Habel bought one of these and was very happy with the product.

I bought one. And if it's the right one, I guess the one I took out of my GS was replaced at some point?

Looks nothing like this repro piece.

Any Ideas?

Here's a picture of the tray in a 64 'Lark that was sent to me by the former owner of my car, saying it is correct for the 65 GS, except mounted on the other side of the engine bay.  Looks the same as the Fusick repro to me, but I haven't bought one to confirm the fit yet.

What do you guys use for correct battery hold downs?  I think I can get one from Fusick, but are there other options?

My car came with this stuff missing.......

Thanks,

Chuck

The battery tray's are the same for the GS, Skylark and Special and the bracket is different.

The bracket is different because it's reversed for the GS so that the tray can be mounted on the drivers side.

The original battery tie down was the wire frame type that straddled the battery and hooked to the tray on either side.

Battery hold downs are also avail from CARS, $24.50
http://www.oldbuickparts.com

CARS has many repo items that are avail no where else.... like their repo air cleaner decals. They're aluminum just like the originals.
Take a look at their online catalog!

The 64 and repo 65 trays you guys pictured looks like the one in my 65 GS as well. Joe, you have a pic of yours? If it's a 66-67 tray, I'll take it! ;D

Loren, I'm thinking maybe 1986 Ford Taurus..... or  maybe 1968 John Deere

Any other guesses?   ;D

Loren

Hmm. So can someone please post some pictures of the correct brackets since I do have the fusick repro piece. Just need to know what brackets I have or don't have. It look stock from what I remember.

Walt?
Joe, I don't have any pics of the brackets. If it was easy, I would take some pics for you, but it is overly complicated due to where the car is stored and the damaged hood being difficult to remove.
PS....your battery tray isn't 66-67 either.

Well I guess there's no need to post is there?? The fusick repro is posted. Are you saying it's not the same?

Just post a picture if it's not too much trouble.

The picture Chris posted from the service manual on the first page of this thread shows a "rod assembly".
I see CARS has the hold down, but where do I get the rod assembly?

It looks it's listed in CARS on-line search. They have a BB-610-2 and a BB-610-3. They look the same.

If you can't find one Mark, let me know--I have made these from scratch before and it isn't very hard.  Piece of 5/16" rod, small piece of 1/6" sheet metal, mig welder,  threading die, and a little grinding and it is done.

Brian,

I'm going to check out these CARS pieces first. If I need one made, I'll let you know.
Maybe you should "repop" 10 or 15...
THANKS!
