Milton ,
do you think that tach is the original under dash tack and mounting bracket ?

Original Buick 'knee knocker' or console tach but doubt its original to this car.

..I wont claim to be a know-it-all by any means, however, what I do THINK is the 'Knee Knocker" style tach was never designed to be used as this one has been installed.  I believe the 'Knee Knocker' design was originally mounted on early Wildcat consoles....  and thru the years, peeps have converted them to many locations... Saw a real sweet 69 and the fello had converted a Buick Knee Knocker tach and mouonted it on the steering column. Looked factory!

I took a look at the early '65 Skylark order form and there is not a tachometer listed as an option. However, an add-on tach is available in the 'Dealer approved accessories' catalog.
The 64-65 Special Skylark was available with a 300 engine and a 4-on-the-floor manual trans, but had a different console than the GS's.
I'll guess a Buick tach had to be ordered through the parts department for those cars.

The console or even under the dash is a poor location for a tachometer..... too far from where your eyes should be while driving or racing!!
