Long time since I slipped in here hope everyone is doing well..
Any how long story short, sold my -65 GS project and stumble over a Sport Wagon I could not turn down even if I have said no more car hordering...
Interesting project car with all options there were to get in -65 I think, could anyone please help with the option decoding?

I would love to have one of these to tow my GS around. Someday maybe.....

Ok after a little research I found this (and pls. correct me if I am wrong).
Trim;
- 171 = Blue interior, vinyl seat covers.
Paint;
- EC = Midnight Blue bottom, Artic White top.
Group 1;
- E = Tinted windows (all).
- X = Power windows (except vents.)
- G = Power window tail gate.
- F = 4-way power seat (bench).
- O = ???
Group 2;
- K = Air conditioning.
- X = ???
- P = Back up lights.
- R = Rear seat speakers ???
Group 3;
- V = ???
Group 4;
- F = Remote mirror.
Group 5;
- K = Door guard moldings. :icon_scratch:
- W = Seat belts with retractors.
-
Good job of decoding. 1 O is two tone paint, 2 X is the ST300 automatic transmission, built in Flint, MI (FB) the 4th week of March (3D). Can't help with the 3 V code.

Thx. Dan for filling in..
Quick question, would a roof rack and instrumentation clock be something that will show on the trim tag?

Dear Br Anton, Dan, Buick_65, and mid-60s Buick longroof fans, . . .
Thanks for sharing! That's one nice looking wagon! Glad to see my wagon isn't alone on this forum! :thumbsup:

The roof rack might but do not think the clock would. The clock is part of a package. Nice looking ride BTW. Love those options. What engine does it have ?
Dan
-
Thx. Eduardo...long roofs forever...haha.
Dan it has its original 4 port 300 with a 2 speed ST-300 with 74k miles on it, but it would be cool to build a GS Sport Wagon
with 401, bucket seats, console with floor shift and rally wheels....

Nice find! Look the underside over good, I see it has MN plates.

Ok think I got all except the 2R squared away 100%, anyone up for the correctness of the 2R for a Skylar Sport Wagon 1965 (and pls. correct me if I am wrong).

Nevermind that, what matters is what's in your signature . . . .

-65 Skylark Sport Wagon
(http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/wink_smile_triangle.gif). . . If a 455 is good enough for your first Skylark, isn't that what your Skylark wagon absolutely has to have!! . . . Ya' darn tootin' I'm pullin' your leg! If I pulled any harder I'll yank it clean out of its socket! . . . . :overthetop:
So grin and bear it! :laughing7:

Edouard,
Well I have 2pcs 1976 455s with th400 laying in the garage so the idea have already been planted......would love to get a th700 behind the 455 for a quick and cruise friendly wagon sleeper. My other personality would like a 401/425 with 2 X 4s and 4 on the floor, bucket seats, rallys and set up with a Sixties look...we see, the wallet needs to be
onboard too.....and the wife....haha.

And for something really different there is a 350 Buick. The 200R4 bolts up to it and they are plentiful.

Well, my trusty wagon was supposed to be powered by a Buick big-block and a 200-R4. Unfortunately both those components have been plagued by misfortune. We'll see if I can pull this off!

Dan,
Thx. for the link, luckily there were a spare side glass with the car.....looking for a set of -65 bucket seats though...

I'm sure that Loren has a set. How nice do you want them ?
Dan
-
By the way there is a column shift tilt column in the car that looks 100% original except the steering wheel, would that show on the option code for a Skylark 1965?
Br Anton
-
Dan,
Well if they are not the light blue metallic ones (and I assume they are not), the vinyl cover does not need to be nice at all as long as the frame and maybe padding is decent and could be re-covered without a full rebuild.
Br Anton
-
Every set of seats I have seen that are not in a car needed a complete rebuild. Of course the price reflected that at about $250 for a set. You would have to ask Loren if he has any that are as nice as you are looking for. If you want the blue covers and something that sits nice to cruise in I would suggest a full rebuild.
Dan
-
Yes I do have a few sets of seats that are basically cores for rebuild. Let me know if you are interested.
Really should start finding new homes for some of this stuff. LOL
Loren
-
Loren,
I will get back with you as soon as I have checked with my source down here in TX, thx for replying though.
Understand Dan, I was lucky with my Skylark seats that I could use the padding (padding for 2 passenger seats though).
Who would be the best supplier for the seat covers and padding? I used OPGI for the Skylark but do not like the quality
of the vinyl (bought door sides and seat covers from OPGI but with a slight color differens, metallic red).
Br Anton
-
The best supplier for our Skylarks is probably Legendary. The foam can be either Legendary or Al Knoch (near El Paso TX and they sell foam kits for 'A body's'). Loren used their foam in a set of seats and liked them. Believe they also will build the seats for you. Will let someone more knowledgeable than me recommend padding, etc.
Legendary periodically has 20 % off sales (one is on now but ends today) and that is really the time to buy. Always have a sale on around year-end.

Ok here we go again....1 become 2 that shortly become 3......it is something about those 1965s
Had to visit an old friend for a parts car.....

(http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/wink.gif) . . . I dunno' but ya' seem to be goin' in da' wrong direction! You are supposed to end up closer to havin' one you can actually drive and have fun with!! . . . (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/roadster%20blue.gif)
Just in case you needed a little inspiration to seek the destination, you might enjoy reading about how my 1965 Buick Special wagon finally has come back to life after essentially a 5 year ordeal:

I agree it is fun to fix 'em, but it also a lot of fun to drive 'em! (http://www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/Forum_support_documents/Custom_emoticons/car_3gears.gif)
Best of luck in getting at least one of those 1965 Buick Sportwagons back on the road and giving you a lot of driving satisfaction! :thumbsup:

You look pretty happy to be going the wrong direction!😀😀
-
Well...Eduoard I need parts before I can get over the hill so to speak, the Blue wagon needed frame work and with 2 wagons sitting here at Skylark Heaven in TX it was easier to swap frames.
Jim, that is not me on the picture, but I was as happy.... it is always a great day when you can drive up to Mr. Skylark....Mark Polastry and pick his inventory, just be around this gentleman is a great experience.....
-
So that's Mark Polastry in the photo ? Bought a few parts from him but have never met him. Very nice guy.
Amazing how green things get in the Austin area with just a couple of feet of rain. LOL

Nice 65 Sporty I have had mine 7 years put 40,000 miles on her it currently has a 350SBB 2004R 3.31 posi and works great but ill either have to go to 3.73 diff or put one of my TH350's with my Gear Vendors OD unit behind it the ideal final drive for Buicks with a26" tire I found is 2.5-2.56
keep the long roofs alive
yes all those cars in the picture from the 2 MG'S to the maroon 60 Pontiac were all mine at that time hahahahaha

Thanks for sharing the additional pictures! I see we have a very similar setup for our additional gauges. Great minds think alike? :laughing7:
