Title: Rolled over 70,000 miles!
Post by: campfamily on April 12, 2015, 09:28:22 AM
My Buick rolled over 70,000 a few days ago. I'd forgotten how much fun it is watching a mechanical odometer change to a big number like this.  My kids think I'm weird, but I remember when I was a kid, watching the odometer on Dad's car go to a new 10K was fun.  Now, with today's digital odometers, it's just "Blink" and it's done.

I remember the same thing. It's still a fun "event".

I remember once we had a 71 nova that rolled over at 100k , we actually backed up for 1 mile so we could watch it again . lol
Boy those were the days .       :headbang:

I think a lot of the dealers used to back up a lot farther back in the day. I was down in the sticks once in Arkansas and the guy had it up on jack stands in reverse. I don't think he realized how long the car would have to be there to accomplish his ultimate goal of misrepresentation. It was still funny to watch, like the old "used cars" movie.

Dear Keith, Jim, John, and mid-60s Buick time machine caregivers,

My Buick rolled over 70,000 a few days ago. I'd forgotten how much fun it is watching a mechanical odometer change to a big number like this.

Congratulations!

I think I have pictures (on film sadly) of my trusty wagon going over 100,000 and 200,000 miles.  There was something really special about getting a "brand new car" not once but twice!  She is now in the neighborhood of 260,000 miles, so with any luck at all I should be able to get myself a "brand new car" once she has a working engine and I can start putting some miles on her!

Cheers, Edouard  :cheers2:
