Anyone have a picture of what the correct, original heater control valve should look like on a 65 GS with factory AC?

Do you mean under the hood ,or the vacuum control in the dash?Dan

Here's a photo of the heater control valve that came off the 85,000 mile silver convertible. I can't say for sure if this is the original one or not, but the patina looks about right. The hoses have obviously been replaced and worm screw clamps used. Would the original clamps be those nasty spring ring style clamps?

That looks like the valve I have on my car now and that everyone says is the correct one, but it will not fit down in the fork shaped bracket--the threaded area on it is too large in diameter to fit in the forks unless yours is different than the ones I have seen. Will the one you have fit in the bracket?

Tomorrow, I'll try to get a picture of the one I have. It is still on that engine. Pretty sure it is an original.

Sadly, I can not find that bracket. I do not remember taking it off nor do I have any photos taken during disassembly and there's nothing written in my notebook regarding that bracket. I pulled the hose of the valve and the threads do not go all the way to the end. Perhaps the fork of the bracket will slide over the smooth part, just ahead of the hose. That measures 5/8" in diameter.

Count me as another one who does not remember the bracket on my engine. On my red post car the engine had definitely been detailed before I bought it. So the bracket was probably removed. Found the attached illustration in one my parts books.

I believe that schematic is for the 300 in the skylark. Not sure if that bracket is even on the 401 in our gran sports. Be nice to know for sure.

They definitely have a bracket. My car had it on it when I got it, and I have another one that came off an engine from a Riveria I parted out 25 years ago. Also, here is a picture I just dug up of an all original Freemont built GS I parted out several years ago (Loren has this now). Alot of things on this car were original and un-disturbed when I got it, but body was way too rusty to save. If you zoom in on the pic, you can see it has a bracket with a metal clip that hold the valve into the bracket. It takes the correct valve for the clip to work--the ones you buy at the auto parts store won't work with the clip, but will sit in the bracket. The front corner intake manifold bolt is actually a studded bolt and the bracket mounts to the stud part with a flange nut.

Here are two pics I have of the valve and bracket before removal. The car did not have factory air but had what I assume to be a dealer installed AC system.

Look what I found in my spare parts bin. Looks like the correct bracket but it's missing the clip. It does not slide over the threaded part, but does slide over just behind the threads on the smooth portion.
