It appears that a previous owner swapped in a carrier and gearset from a 2.78 auto car. I need a series 3, 3.31 and up carrier only. Don't need gears unless you have a 3.90-4.30 set on it. I don't even need the spiders or side gears as I have a Powertrax in mine now. I'm trying to avoid buying another locker for it for another 4-500 bucks... Thanks for looking!

Based on the gear ratios you are looking for I'd suggest an Auburn Hi-Bias carrier. Brand new with a warranty and it won't slip like a 50 yr old OEM one. I priced rebuilding my 3rd member and the Auburn looked very attractive. Fits the BOP 8.2" and is a 3.31 and up carrier. I run 4.11,s and 9' slicks and it hasn't let me down yet. Just a thought.

Well, that's my last resort plan. I made a mistake and installed the Powertrax locker(for $466) so another 400-500 bucks for another Auburn, Eaton, or Yukon posi to install shorter gears is not my 1st choice. If someone has a 3.31 and up gear carrier I can buy reasonably, I'll install my Powertrax locker in that with my new gearing. In other words, all I need is a gear carrier that will take the short gears (3.90-4.11-4.33). But thanks for the suggestion and recommendation!

I think I saved the last one I had--I will have to dig around in the parts closet tonight and get back to you. Had 3.36 gears on it.
-
Brian, that would be great! What do you think you need to get for it?
-
If I still have it, $50 plus shipping.

Brian,
You're a life saver, man! I'll take it! So, do you want to do a Paypal transaction? Just get it boxed and estimated for shipping and I'll send you the total plus 5% for fees. See PM for name and address info.
Thanks again, man!

Let me look and see what I have tonight. I have a couple of them, just can't remember if one of them I still have is for the 3.36 and lower. I know one of them I have is for the 3.08-3.23 ratios. I can set them side by side and compare and it will be obvious if one of them is the 3.36 carrier.

Shawn, there might be a ring gear spacer avail to use your tall gears with the 2.78 carrier. Probably cost more than $50 tho. Hope Brian can set you up with a carrier.
Jim, aka Monzaz, is the resident Buick rear expert. Contact him via his website at www.jdrace.com (http://www.jdrace.com)
So are you planning on swapping the Powertrax parts into the 3.36 carrier? I have no idea if that can be done.
What gears are you going to run?
That 2.78 4 speed combo must be tough on the clutch!!

It kinda is a little sluggish on the start, shall we say, LOL. That was my tip off that I might not have a correct gearset in it. When I got the Powertrax, there was no different listing for open vs. posi for the part #, so I hope my plan is feasible. Brian, God love him, has a 3.36 gear carrier for me. He's a savior for my plan, and I'll thank him here again for his help.
Funny about the spacer thing, all vendors had every possible GM one except the right one for us BOP 8.2 guys. The part#900A Mr. Gasket is out of stock everywhere, including AT Mr. Gasket. How's that for some good luck?
Jim was my next plan after a forum shoutout. My plan is for either 3.90 or 4.10 (or maybe even 4.30) gears. My car is actually Chris Horn's #19 in the registry. I did message him and asked if he had any idea how it got from Ohio to NH, but never heard back from him.
Thanks for all the help from all who responded, I think I'm gonna enjoy owning this bad boy because of how helpful and nice all you Buford boys are!

Bad news on the carrier--all I have left are ones for the 3.08-3.23 gears. I thought I had one leftover from where I did a posi swap for someone, but it is gone. I do have a ring gear spacer for a Buick 8.2 though that will make the gear you want work with the carrier you have. I will sell that for $20.

If you plan to use your powertrax that makes perfect sense from a $$ standpoint. Try Carmen Fasco at J&C's parts in N. Tonawanda NY. I'd be surprised if he didn't have one.

I'll take that spacer. Thanks for looking and helping me out Brian. I can mail you a U.S. Postal Service Money order for the total, or do Paypal. Let me know...
... and Jerry, thanks, I'll check with Fasco, appreciate the source. We can never have too many Buick parts sources I'm coming to find out!

Shawn--sending you a PM.

:cheers2:
Brian, thanks for helping me out, I REALLY appreciate it. It'll sure be nice driving the car after I get a set of gears in it that will allow it to get out of its own way! :icon_biggrin:
