Title: 65GS chrome road wheels
Post by: Brian on March 29, 2014, 04:21:32 PM
Since it has rained here all day today, I dug out the chrome road wheels I have stashed in the shed to evaluate what I have.  I confirmed that I have 3 correct 65 GS JK wheels with the polished centers and 4 welds on the back.  Of those 3, one has rust in the chrome on the rim, but I guess I could use it for the spare since it will be face down in the trunk.   I also have 3 of the 66-67 JK wheels that have continuous weld on the back and matte chrome in the center section.  So where is what I need:

- 2 or 3 correct 65 JK chrome road wheels with the 4 welds on the back.  I don't care if they have rust or pitting on the back side or in the area that is inside the tire, but I need the chrome on the ouside front to be good enough to put on my 65 with a little polishing.

- 2 correct 66-67 JK chrome road wheels witht the continuous weld and matte chrome in the center.

My 65 currently has a set of the 80s regal wheels on it, and my 66 has a set of the 68-72 wheels on it.  So I would like to complete both of these sets so I can put the correct wheels on both my cars.  If someone comes up with what I need, I will have some good wheels that are on my cars now to trade with--both are complete sets of 5.

Thanks Ted!  That would be awsome!   Trying to get a couple details like this correct on my car before the big 50th anniversary next year.

The first one definitely has too much rust on the front to use.  Hard to tell about the other ones from the picture--do they have rust in the chrome on the front too?

Update to my original post--I found one more 66 and one more 65 wheel last night from a guy that lives 10 miles from my house!    So I need one more 66 wheel and 2 more 65 wheels.   Ted, what is you evaluation of the ones you have--I know one has some rust in the rim on the front side--do the other two look like they will clean up?

Definitely let me know what you have once you know something.  I am trying to put together a correct set of original 65 wheels with the 4 separate welds on the back to put on my GS.  The 4 I have now all have great center sections in them with the polished chrome finish, but two of them have no so good rims on them.  One option is to find some of the 66/67 version wheels with the continuous weld and cut the center out of them and weld the 65 center into them.  I am open to doing that if I can find a couple more of the 66/67 rims to cut up.

Hi Brian, my wheels are 14s. Is that what you're looking for?

Yes--looking for original 65 GS chrome wheels, which are 14".  Original 65 wheels have 4 separate welds on the back holding the center in vs the continuous weld they went to sometime in 66.

Hi Brian, Sorry to say that these must be later model as they have the continuous weld around the center vs the 4 separate. Here are pictures of the condition of the wheel anyway in case you still need later model ones. I prefer to sell them as a set.

Thanks for checking!  Those are definitely the new style wheels with less backspacing, so they are not what I am looking for.
