Title: Trouble removing drivers side exhaust manifold

Ok, manifold is unbolted and the starter is out. Thought it could then come out from the top. Have tried several different times but can't get it. Does the steering rod need to be removed? Any suggestions?

Believe it will come out through the bottom of the car once the starter is out. When installing put the exhaust manifold on first with just a couple of bolts barely holding it on. That way it can pivot a bit to get the starter back in.

Before removing the steering rod I would jack up the front of the engine a couple of inches after removing the motor mount bolts.

Dan - That did the trick on the drivers side. As I suspected the heat riser valve was stuck whcih had to have been the major cause of the motor running hot.

BTW - That dash pad I bought was not really as advertised. Looks like someone had painted it brown so maybe I can clean it up and re-paint.

Glad that worked out for you.

You had better luck than me on the dash pad - UPS center punched mine so he wrapped yours really well. The seller also gave me a full refund.  :icon_biggrin:

SEM works really well on the dash pads. Just make sure it is really clean first with some spray on vinyl prep.
