Title: BCA Nationals, who gonna be there?
Post by: nut465gs on June 27, 2013, 07:59:26 AM
The BCA Nationals this year will be in South Bend, Indiana July 17 - 20. How many '65 GS will be there? Who's going to be there, but without their '65 GS?  At the 2010 BCA Nationals in Ames, Iowa, we had a gathering of eight '65 GSs plus about three owners who did not have their car there. Who's going to be in South Bend?

John, I'll be there sans GS, but with a GS. Riding shotgun with Rob Keena in a red 65 4 speed convt.

Dan,

I would like to be there, but I have a scheduling conflict. I don't see anyway around it. However, I will be there in spirit. I'm hoping that there will be a number of '65 GSs there as this is a little closer to where many of the '65 GS are located. Registration deadline for the BCA Nationals is June 30. Dan, I expect daily updates.

Unfortunately the closest I'm likely to get that week would be I-94 heading back to Canada in my big rig. :sad1:

Mark & Rob

Have you decided what day you are heading for South Bend yet?

I am part of the Gopher Buick Chapter as you know and we are helping support registration this year so I will be their Tuesday night.

I'm looking forward to seeing all the new and old faces.

Well made it on Friday and it was like a oven hot! :sunny: I think there where 7 65 there? Dan's  convert ,Rob's convert, Glen's hardtop,Al's hardtop, Roger's's hardtop, Harlee's post, and Bill's hardtop lark all great looking cars WOW! There were also some very nice 66 to 72 GS's to ! Got to talk to almost everybody and had a great time and even found some needed parts! Nos door handles ( already got them on the car!), 2 used nice tri-shield rear view mirrors, a gs air cleaner in great shape! My buddy Ron picked -up a red sport steering wheel, and a nice knee knocker tach! Mark Ascher also picked-up some rare dealer only gs literature! And I think Milt picked-up a hard to find color and trim book! Way to go guys!

Update from Dan Ankeny; Roger Sears won "mild" modified first place with his black 4 speed; Al Jones won a senior preservation award and most points for a 61-72 A-body with his blue/white auto 65; and Dan won a senior gold, 390+ points with his 4 speed convert. There was a great showing of 65/66 GS cars at the show. Congrats to all the winners! I'll post up some pics today.

Oven hot pretty much describes the weather.

Dan,

Congratulations on earning the Senior Gold Award. I had no doubts that your convertible would do very well with the judging. All your hard work and attention to details paid off. Wish that I could have been there to see your convertible and all the other '65 and '66 GSs. Congratulations also to Roger Sears and Al Jones. Sorry that you lost your camera, Hopefully some honest person will find you or post something in the Bugle or on the BCA Website. Any photos available of the show from Jon, Mark or Rob?

Dan, John,

I have my pics downloaded. I need to resize them and then I can post. Dan, do you want copies of my photos? Sorry to hear about the camera, maybe it'll turn up though.

Rob's convert made the journey there and back with the only casualty being a fuse for the dash & tail lights. I got a number of hours seat time on the left side as well - thanks Rob!!! Top down almost all the way there and back. Had to put it up when it started raining in western WI.

I was hoping that Rob would have entered his GS in the 400 point judging. It would have been cool to see two '65 GS convertibles earn the Senior Gold.

John, I hope I can talk Rob into getting his car judged at the regional next summer. A few things to tidy up over the winter,
and he'll be good to go next year.

Harle was awarded a Silver for his 65 post GS. Glenn was in the modified class. Very nice car but the competition was stiff.
John - thanks for the good thoughts. Wish you had been there.
Mark - a copy of your pictures would be much appreciated. You know the email.

I counted 4 66 GS cars at South Bend. Don't know if I missed any. I also didn't get the owners names on any of these - I apologize to them all.

Thanks for posting the pics Mark! They are all very fine examples.
The blue '66 belongs to Chas Anderson.

And Congrats to Dan for earning the Senior Gold Award!! That's quite an accomplishment!
