Title: Nebraska swap meet
Post by: Loren At 65GS on March 03, 2013, 04:21:31 PM
:hello2:Well , hopefully today marks spring in Nebraska.
It was the first swap meet of 2013 here in Nebraska. The weather was good and a terrific turn out at the Lancaster Event Ctr.
John Egel came up from KS. We met up with some other GS nuts and walked around for nearly five hours. A few Buick parts here and there with the most being at John Nichols' space.
Didn't find that elusive holy grail NOS part, what ever it may be , but a good time anyway.

Thanks John, It will be fun and interesting to look through the old registry.

Loren,

I had a great time with my little trip to the prairie. Your shop/garage is going to be a great place to work on your many '65 GS projects. The radiant floor heating system is the only way to go for those cold Nebraska winters.

I was wondering if most major swap meets are similar to what we have in the midwest? Mostly Ford and Chevy parts with almost nothing Buick related. I came home with my all my cash still in my wallet. Twenty years ago, I'd always find something and sometimes even an NOS part for our '65s. Those days are gone forever.

We have the Carlisle, Pa swap meets here. Huge show, and like you said, very few Buick items, but they do show up from time to time.
However, it's a great place to buy repo items. I always hit the 'other' A-body suppliers and even the Corvette vendors to search for parts to fit my GS's.
My best purchase EVER was a 2x4 air cleaner I got for $10 in 1982. :icon_biggrin: The $35 aluminum valve covers were also good finds 'back in the day'.
I did get a '66 GS 4speed carb and intake a few years ago for $50. Sometimes the deals still pop up.

Walt,
Some guys have all the luck!lol Being close to Carlisle that is.
As for our Buick parts, I've always had the best of luck at a solely Buick show/swap. But even at that , there is getting to be less and less it seems.
I still have the dream of getting to Carlisle some day or maybe even Hershey. The swap/show in NC a few years back that I made it to was staggering in size. I had two days at it and think I didn't see it all.

John,
The spring extravaganza in MN is coming up the first weekend of May. We could go and bug Mark.

Will the snow be melted by then? Free food! There may be a road trip in my future. Haven't been to the Twin Cities since last summer.

Talk of spring in Nebraska sounds like a good plan to me.

We had 10" of partly cloudy last Tuesday morning as you can see from the pictures.

Fortunately I have a 5' snowblower to clean up with and the streets are dry already.

They are predicting rain this weekend and temps above freezing for the week.

I will be pulling the sideboards off the tilt bed and dusting it off or it will turn into a big block of ice.

I will also throw some new brakes in and I'll be ready for the car/swap season.

It sure would be great to see you guys up here when spring hits Minnesota.

It's been a long, cold and snowy winter for most of the Midwest and in particular the Northeast. Milton, at least you have a John Deere to make it fun pushing snow. Time for all of us to start thinking about getting the GSs ready for spring.
