Post by: dsags on January 15, 2013, 06:56:44 AM
There are two 1965 Skylark Gran Sports being sold at Barrett-Jackson this week. Both are no reserve cars.
On Wednesday is http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=425&aid=466 (http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=425&aid=466)
On Thursday is http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=704&aid=466 (http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=704&aid=466)

Loren,

He's going to need to buy a champagne mist & black 4 speed HT to complete the trifecta.

Mark,

There isn't enough money in the world to pry that car out of your garage. LOL

Loren,

No room in the garage. Just ask my wife.  :icon_biggrin:

Looking at their website, it may not have crossed the block yet.

Was surprised but really pleased. Not sure it was a matching number engine. They were kind of coy in the description. But it seemed to be a very well done car. Can certainly pick nits but am glad that a 65GS finally brought some decent money. A 65 GTO like that would be $50K but ....

Wow. Are you able to see the auction online?  I've been monitoring the site by following the 2013 list and looking after the "sold" posts to see the $$.  Thanks.

Yea, the description is somewhat vague, it doesn't describe the extent of the restoration. Not enough pictures either.
Pretty darn nice car though from what little you can see. I'm glad it got that to that level as well.

Yeah, gotta love that 'Matching numbers Borg-Warner T10 4-speed'.  Had a steering wheel with no cracks though.  Will be interested in seeing what the red post car brings. Check back tomorrow.

The red post car - frame off, auto, dual quads - just crossed the block. Same result as yesterday. Sold for $34,100 including the buyers 10% premium. Nice results.

It's good to see the value on our Buicks catching up to the Chevys, Fords and Mopars. Those two GSs looked very nice and speak well for the '65s. Does this mean that I should also put dual quads on my silver convertible. Engine eye candy!

If you can afford the convertible, you can afford the dual quad setup.  :evil6:

You make a good point, you know we could just swap cars, then you would have a Red set of "his" and "hers".  :icon_biggrin:

I bought the white hardtop on the premise that it was "hers". Although she's liking how the silver convertible is slowly coming together, that may be her new car.  Sorry, you have to convince her first to a trade. Are you looking to buying a hardtop? Two '65 GSs is twice the fun!

Whats with the door panels on that one ? Is that a "base" coupe interior ?

DL,

Thin Pillar Coupes, aka post cars, use the interior pieces from the Special instead of the Skylark.

Dan,

Actually post GS/Skylarks used one type door panel, the Specials are a little "cheaper", with a embossed foil emblem in them and the vinyl embosing goes horizontial unlike the post Skylark/GS style

Also just a FYI: I have seen hardtop panels mounted in a Post car, though to do this and make it work out, you would need to use a hardtop back seat and filler panels as well

Regards,

It kinda works, a previous owner did that in a Skylark I have. Along with seats from a mid to late '70s GM.
Was entertaining to say the least.
