My recently acquired 65 GS currently has a cable linkage for the clutch. I'm looking to replace it with the correct Z-bar linkage. Wondering if this would be the correct items. It appears the frame bracket and maybe the engine bracket are missing. I've asked the seller if he has them, or perhaps he could obtain them from the car.

Hi Tom,
If you look at the service manual Chris has here on the site you can pull up what this linkage looks like.
its not a "standard" z-bar as it is mounted on a bracket on the frame.  It has lots of crazy unique parts.
 :occasion14:    Changing will be a intricate job involving removing the inner fender and welding
a bbracket on the frame.

That is part, but not all of what you need.  You need the push rod and upper z-bar assembly in that picture.  I would grab it--those parts are really hard to find.  You will also have to find the lower z-bar, its mounting bracket, and the connecting link to the upper z-bar (it can be fabricated).

that set up has been floating around that board for a few years...someone buys it, realizes it wrong and 6 mo or so back up it goes...its even been on ebay a couple times...

Looks correct to me--just missing the lower z-bar.   Does someone see something wrong that I am missing?  I have had my hands on several of these setups and all these parts look correct.

I finally got it to open (picture)  looks like it needs the bracket that bolts to the frame and the cast iron zbar...
Tom, what does the linkage you have attach to?

IMO.... awfully expensive considering the missing parts and what looks to be poor condition.
Pedals are nothing rare..... A V6 Skylark or Special uses the same ones.
The cast iron pieces are the most desirable (missing here).
However, that upper z-bar mount is hard to find since it was originally welded to the frame.  Worth picking up IF it's in good shape.... they often rust up or strip out, be careful.

The lower frame bracket can be fabricated. Just cut and bend steel plate. I've done it.
Upper bracket and z-bar could even be fabricated without too much trouble.

Thanks for all the replies. :thumbsup: I already have ther pedals, but as I said, the linkage is a cable type, which works OK, just wanted to change to the correct items if possible. Think I will pass on this one.

My bellhousing is from a Bendtsen in Ham lake, MN. I wonder if the factroy linkage would even work with that??

I purchaced this today as I was next inline.Kind steep for a rod but that is all I needed .Hope to sell off the other parts to make it a 100 rod!

Ted, I will have to look closely at the linkage set up. It works, but once in a while feels like it could be binding slightly right at the clutch engagement point. Perhaps it just needs a little lube. Haven't tried dumping the clutch yet. :icon_biggrin:

That is another option to consider, since I really don't want to be playing with inner fenders and welding etc.

The car has an M-22 trans as well, according to the paperwork that came with it.

If it has an M22 you would hear it. M22's have straighter cut teeth than the regular transmission gearsets and have a fair amount of whine.

see the original stuff looks nothing like any other I know about...the throwout bearing is activated by a lever on a shaft rather than a clutch fork.
Bendtsen's made it simple to use something like the cable or hydraulic.

While driving the car home, I suspected the M-22 trans, based upon the whining noise you describe. :thumbsup: Going through the paperwork at home confirmed that fact. :hello2: I have no issues with that trans, nor any immediate plans to replace it.

Thanks again Ted!  :thumbsup: :occasion14: Looks like the hydraulic would be the way to proceed, should a change in linkage be warranted. I better speak directly with Bendtsen about a replacement cable in the meantime.
