Title: Mild Custom 65 GS
Post by: Paintworks on May 15, 2012, 11:15:49 AM
Just registered on this website and thought you would enjoy the story of my 65 GS:
This car started out as a basket case. Well, a basket anyway. There weren?t much for parts with this one. It was basically a frame, running motor, transmission and rear end, body with doors and that?s it. We had to track down the rest of the body panels, glass, interior and every other small item. Once we started to dig into the already primed body we found that the previous metal work was unacceptable and it was full of filler. In search of the missing body panels we found a very clean 4-door Buick Special. This car gave us many of the missing parts we needed. We later found out just how much we would use. The trunk and rear quarters were so clean on the four door we decided it would be worth cutting just about the entire back half of the car out and welding it into the GS. We ended up using the rear door skins for the front of the quarters and the end result was a beautifully clean job. More parts were tracked down and the car finally is complete. This car just won 1st place in the Modified-Mild class at the Buick Club of America's National meet in Danvers, MA.

Sean,

Great work on saving another '65 GS. I love the black and gray paint. After doing surgery on this one, I bet you wish someone made reproduction sheet metal. Cool website. I see in the galley another '65 GS 4-speed convertible. I wonder if this is Pat G.'s convertible, looks just like it.

Welcome to the website. Your expertise in body and paint will be a great asset to our little club house. Glad to have you aboard.

John

All

I see the Paintworks car is currently on eBay.

I don't have any personal knowledge of this car but I did see it at BCA Nationals in Danvers and took pictures.

The eBay writeup sheds a lot more information on how modified it really was.

Congratulations to the builders.
