I have a console tach to add. I am wondering if all cars are prewired under the console for one ? I'd check my car but it is away being painted currently.
Thanks

'65 GSs are prewired for the tach and the tach's light bulb socket, it's part of the wiring harness. The tach wire should be a brown wire and will also need to be connected to the coil. See illustrations 10-3 and 10-4 in the GS Service Manual Supplement.
Glad to hear that your restoration is moving forward. Post photos when you get a chance.

That is the case with automatic transmission cars, but the 4-speed and 3-speed cars do not all have the wiring in the dash harness for a console tach. If the car was ordered with the console for the 3 or 4 speed shifter, it still didn't have the wiring unless it was ordered with a tach in the console. The 3 and 4 speed cars had the same harness under the hood, so they have all have the brown wire to connect to the coil just like the automatic cars all had.

Great info, thanks Brian!

Brian,
That was my fault I did not specify I had an auto. But John already knew that.
Thanks guys, :occasion14:

DL I hve added at factory tack to my 65 GS auto car and found all the wiring like John and Brian said and the tack works correctly, thanks Bill.

I have seen a 1965 GS with some kind of Black cover plate with the Buick tri shield logo in it, where the tach in the console should be. Is that factory correct? I thought that every 1965 GS was equipped with a tach in the console? The car is an Automatic.
Thanks,
Jens

Jens,
The tachometer was an option, not standard equipment.
The piece you are referring to is the standard part found when a tach is not installed.

Hi Loren,
thanks for your quick reply. It's just that all the Pictures I have found on the net of the console the tachometer is always installed.
But I know better now. Thanks:-)
