Title: Interior Red Indicator Bulb

Stupid question time:

I just bought my 65 GS and I'm getting used to it.  I noticed a red indicator bulb that is just under the left hand dash above the parking brake handle.  Looks like a standard idiot light but when I reviewed the owners manual I don't see it discussed anywhere and I have no idea what it's for.  The light comes on during the start but then usually goes out after the engine warms up.  I asked the previous owner and he had no idea, but he bought the vehicle as an investment and rarely drove it.

It may be an aftermarket item added by a previous owner but I figured if it was a standard item maybee someone would have an idea.

Hi Jim,

I think that it might be a parking brake warning light. It should light up when the parking brake is set. This was a Buick option. Follow the wires and see where they go.

    John is right, Sounds like it's the Parking Brake Warning Signal, Buick Gr.4.591 Part #980876   I have one here that's NOS in the box . I found it in the trunk of a 65 Skyklark parts car that I Picked up in June. I never saw one before this one either. The writing on the box states that it's for 65-66 A bodies. we learn something new every day !!!!

Thanks much, hopefully that's all it is. 

It seems to work (come on) but the microswitch or the parking brake lever may need adjustment then because sometimes it seems to flicker or come on even if the parking brake is disengaged.  That's why I wasn't sure if it was engine related.  I'll trace the wires and see where it goes.

   If you need the wiring diagram for the light/switch I can make a copy of the origional and mail it to you...

I added one of these to my car when I restored it.   Very nice option in a stick shift car like mine--reminds me to take off the parking brake before taking off!

Thanks.  If you have a wiring diagram it could prove handy if I can't get the light to go out.
