Ran across a shifter yesterday at a local swap meet. It was listed as being for a 65 Chevelle. Is it the same one used in a 65 GS? Asking price was 195.00.Looked the same but I didn't know so I got the guys number. Thanks, Tom

The handle is unique to the 65-66 GS. The Chevelle and Impala handles are close, but different.
Here's a webpage with pics of the Chevy shifters:

66 GS shifter bodies are different. They bolt on to the crossmember, not the trans tailshaft.
