Title: Leaking at Band Adjuster
Post by: Dr Frankenbuick on December 16, 2015, 05:42:02 AM
I noticed my transmission is leaking a little fluid where the band adjuster comes through the case when looking at the exhaust manifolds the other day.  It looks like it is weeping between the threads or from behind the nut. Is there a seal that could be used over the adjuster to stop this issue?  There is nothing in the Manual about it other then how to adjust it.

Thanks

As far as I remember there is no seal there or on the nut. When I run into a problem like this I remove the nut. Hold the adjusting screw in place. Remove the nut. Clean thoroughly with Brakleen & let it dry. Apply silicone sealant, whatever brand you like. Install & let dry. Problem should now be solved.

Thanks Tom,  I was hoping there was a thin rubber backed washer out there that would also fit around the threads tightly. I know just a little bit of weeping during  cleaning and silicone will lead to more weeping.  I was hoping  for an easy way out, but I should know better.

The bolt thread, where it is in the case,  needs to be clean and not have something on them that would affect the torque value. The band adjustment is set to a torque value.
