Title: Removal of drivers side dash insert
Post by: Weldar on October 18, 2010, 10:38:10 PM
Trying to remove the drivers side dash panel but it will not fit through the cut out. Believe I unplugged everything that could hang up. Guess I need to remove the steering wheel and the cover piece holding the blinker?

The car had an after market AC install and I remember back in the mid-70's taking out the evaporator box and blowers in the rear package deck and installing speakers......Anyway the retrofit wiring under the dash for this AC install is a mess. Will probably have some questions about this in the near future.

Un-bolt the steering column under the dash and drop it down until the wheel hits the seat.  You can then tilt the top of the speedo cluster assembly towards you and roll it out of the hole.  There is a portio of it that protrudes down below the opening and you have to sort of roll it out of the opening, but to do that, the steering column has to be out of the way.
