Spring Extravaganza Annual 65Gran Sport Division meeting May 6, 2017
I am late on getting this put together.
This is a fun kick off to the car season, hoping many can join us. Rob is looking for a rough estimate / head count. It does not have to be an exact number but it would be nice to know a rough estimate.
Rob and I corresponded today and I am forwarding his invitation.
" I think I am in good shape for set up. I can get a couple of tables and some chairs and I also will have burgers and Brats as well as potato salad, beans and potato chips. If anyone wants to bring a salad or some fruit or a dessert that would be great."
Location and time:
The address for Rob's shop is 5520 West Main St, Maple Plain Minnesota. Maple Plain is a small outer suburb/town about 10 miles west of 494 on 394/hwy 12 (394 becomes highway 12). Stay on 12 until you are in the town of maple plain. There is a stoplight on the east end of town and a stoplight on the west end of town. Take a left (south) at the light on the west end of town. This is Halgren. Drive 150 yards over the bridge and take the first left. This is west main. Drive 150 yards and the shop is on the left.
For those unfamiliar with the area, the Twin Cities have a interstate loop around them which is 694 to the North and East Side and 494 on the South and West side of the twin cites. It's basically just a large circle around the whole metro. Hwy 12/394 is at the middle of the west section of the loop. Directions:
Coming from the north, on 94 you would exit onto 494 heading south at the suburb of maple grove and drive about 10 minutes to 394. Exit to westbound 394 which immediately becomes highway 12. follow directions above.
Coming from the south on 35 or 169 you would get off on 494. west on 494. Get off on 394 westbound (which immediately becomes highway 12) and follow directions above.
From the East take 94 through the cites. At the west end of Minneapolis get on 394 westbound. Once you cross under 494, 394 becomes highway 12 and you just follow the directions above.
Starting time will be 1:00 PM
Maps attached of the meeting (party) location and fairgrounds.

Weather is always a roll of the dice with this event. It's been shorts, parkas or somewhere in between.

Sorry I'm not able to make it this year.

You can count Milton Dale and Keith Anderson in again this year as we have attended in the past.
I'm in Registration and traffic control equipment again this year and Keith is still the Director of the Gopher State Buick Club which puts on the Extravaganza at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds the first Sunday in May every year.
This is the first and largest one day Car Show / Swap Meet / Car Corall in this part of the country.
We typically get between 700 and 900 cars of all types with BUICK being the focus of course.
As mentioned previously weather has a big impact on how things go but everyone seems to have a really good time.
If you take a look at threads for previous years here on 65GS.com you will get a good feel for the fun.
Rob and his family have provided a really excellent get together location and hospitality for this 65GS.com / BCA 65GS Division Midwest get together for several years now on the Saturday evening before the Extravaganza and is not to be missed.
If you have any questions by all means let us know.

Wet the Whistle with a few pictures from the 2016 Extravaganza.
Honest dad I only spilled a little brake fluid on the hood.
Had a little trouble with the first start up this spring.
Add your own title.

This will; be a good time. Thanks to Loren for getting the reminder out. I have space for plenty of cars so hopefully we will have some 65's (in addition to my own) present. This will happen rain or shine (we can set up the tables inside if needed)
Loren, what should we do for a "start time"? 3:00?

:hello2: Looking forward to the get together and car show. Ladies are welcome at the get together too. Guys please bring your wives along - I don't want to be the only female there  See you all May 6th. :sunny:
-
Kathy and I are planning to attend, Rob thanks for hosting.
-
Rob, if we get the party rolling earlier can't hurt. Time seems to fly so fast when in the company of good friends.
Roxy and I will be spending Friday night in southwestern MN. That puts us about 4 hours away.
Is a noon start-up too early?

It would be neat if you could.
That said though, it would be really cool if something like the Spring Extravaganza started out your way.

Dear Loren and mid-60s Buick "evangelists,"
That said though, it would be really cool if something like the Spring Extravaganza out your way.
Well, you never know, if you spread the "gospel" :angel4: (or more likely addiction :laughing7: ) long enough - there very well might! :sunny:
Cheers, Edouard :occasion14:

Edouard, I have it figured out. You can cruise over here for the show in May and stay all summer. Then you can do the Power Tour in June and the Milwaukee show and meet in July! In August we can got to the NHRA Nationals in Brainerd and you can be back home for work by Fall!

Just found out my plans for Sat may have changed a little bit , had a cousin pass away this past weekend and the funeral is this coming Sat.
I will probably still make it but I won,t be there at 1 . When do we usually wrap things up ? probably won,t get there till around 3 - 3.30 .
-
John, sorry to hear about your cousin. Last year it started at 3 and went until 8 or 9 pm.
Dan
-
Another plan change , my wife will be coming with me . So add one more spouse .
-
Looks like we will have 15 (give or take). Special Thanks to Jim For a large donation of Brats. I will have buns, Brats, potato salad, sodas, some chicken breasts, beans, chips and condiments. Anyone who wants to bring a dessert or some other kind salad will be appreciate but even if that does not happen, we wont go hungry no matter how many folks arrive. I have some beer but generally it will be BYOB. Weather forecast looks very good. 1:00. :cheers2:
Rob
-
Rob ,
I,ll bring a fruit bowl and a another desert . See y'all soon :cheers2:
