Title: Front seat(s) wanted 65
Post by: Polishmeatballpizza on February 22, 2017, 02:19:39 PM
For a 65 Special or Skylark - really just need the frame of the seat, does not need to be upholstered.

Dear George and mid-60s Buick interior decorators,

Were you looking for a bench seat or bucket seats?  Loren has a few bucket seat cores, but until he recovers from his detached retina surgery, I don't think he could help you with that.  Can you be patient about the seats?

Cheers, Edouard

Yes, of course.
Mine had a bench seat, however, it is way too rusty. I don't mind getting a bucket setup.

George,

I have a bench seat available from my parts car if that's your preference.  Shipping would be pricey from Michigan though.  And it's from a 4-door Lark if that matters.

Has it lost integrity? or just really crusty, orange and something you would be embarrassed to take to dinner.

If the latter, having it media blasted and then spray with Ospho will allow you to put it back in service.

Might be cheaper than finding something and paying shipping.

Hope that helps.

I want to say that looks pretty bad. I think a lot of early 60's will work even corvairs for the framing.
Title: Seek something local? (Re: Front seat(s) wanted 65)

Dear George, Michael, Dan, and mid-60s Buick parts hounds,

George you might be able to find something local and save yourself the shipping.  Southern California is still classic car country and I believe the seats aren't Buick specific.  You'll need some help from the guys on this board because some of the brackets are Buick specific.  Still, you might be able to find a seat locally and bring it home yourself.  That would spare you a hefty shipping fee for a bulky item.

Cheers, Edouard

Yes, I have been looking.  Just not sure what A-body car seats will work. Chevelle, Olds?

Buick seat for A body is '64- '65 specific.  The seat cushion spring bends up on the front corners
Chevelle are close , but the seat springs are flat side to side and front to back, if that makes sense.  Pontiac are more square at the corners than the Chevelle or Buick. I think there would be an issues getting the covers to fit correctly.

Unfortunately, some of the vendors list their replacement springs as a one size fits all.  I've already discovered that this is not so and have sent back some incorrect ones.

Here is a link to seat springs that are the most correct I have found.

Edouard and all,

I spend only a few minutes at the computer.  Very difficult to keep focused and seeing the keys comes and goes a little.

So responses are a bit slow.

Thanks for the well wishes form you all.
