Title: My White Convertible - Off to Auction
Post by: Chris on August 15, 2011, 10:41:42 PM
Guys,

I figured that I'd mention this here before you came across it and wondered what was going on.

I'm going to run my GS convertible through the Labor Day auction held in Auburn IN.

I'm listing it at a $25k reserve and it'll be interesting to see how she does.

In case you are wondering, after the convertible and my four speed post are sold, I'll be back down to my 65 GS coupe which is a lot more manageable than the seven cars I had.    :tongue3:

Wish me luck and if anyone is seriously interested in it before the auction, let me know... the first $25k takes her home.

Chris,

Sorry to see the convertible and 4 speed post cars go. Hope they go to a good home. Know you put lots of love and attention into them.

Thanks Dan

As I've always said, we are merely care takers of these cars for the next generation of owners and the time must come to pass them on.

I do sense a four speed convertible in my future at some point but right now my focus has to be shifted to a couple other things first.   :sunny:

Lot 5028 - Listed for a Saturday sale.

We've lowered our reserve to $22,500 since RM lowered their costs a little... we'll see what she does.  :dontknow:

You can watch the auction live over the internet at:

Here is the listing on their site:

Wish us luck and if you watch the auction closely, you'll probably see me on the turntable with her.  :icon_tongue:

No sale at $17,000. None of the cars before or after were selling. I didn't see many cars selling at all.

Long day for sure and I'll never take another car there ever again!

I don't think it's possible to screw up things any more than they did today.  They put my car in a horrible morning position, didn't cover any of the detail sheets that I provided (important things like BIG BLOCK CONVERTIBLE) and then they messed up on the "Still for Sale" sheet and listed my continued asking price for more than I ran it through the auction for.

I agree Dan, I didn't see a lot of anything selling today and I think it just proves how soft the market currently.  I need to wait 30 days before I can try to sell it again because they hold onto the title for that period of time to keep you from selling it "outside of the auction gate".  My wife and I've talked it over and we are lowering our asking price to a very fair $22,500 if anyone is interested.

One thing to watch out for if you ever sell a car at auction.. if your car doesn't sell and they have a "Still for sale" area, they won't release the car to you until the auction close.  My car went on the block at around 11:00 AM and they refused to release the car to me until 8:00 PM tonight.  I threw a fit and challenged the contract until they eventually called in a manager and let me drive it off the property after five hours of waiting around.

Tired.... sun burnt and defeated...    :confused4:

Sorry about your RM experience. I have had similar experieces with them trying to buy after the sale.

Did you sell your post GS?

She'll sell eventually and go off to a good home so I'm not too disappointed (just down $350 plus expenses for the day).  The four speed post goes to Bob this month if he's still interested in buying it.

The way I look at it, if the car took $17,000 at auction then the person interested was also thinking about the auction costs which puts my car right at about what I expect to get from it.  The problem with an auction is that there are only so many people there and probably not many of them even knew what a 65 GS is.  It takes two guys wanting the same car to bring the price up and when only one guy is bidding, it stops at where the other guy decides to give in.

Once I get the title back (a couple more weeks) I plan on listing it on EBay and seeing what happens there.  I'll probably list it at a $22,500 reserve and put a "Buy It Now" at $25,000
