I have a set of these on my convertible and they actually work pretty well. Here are three things to keep in mind if you are thinking of using them:
1. Be prepared to remove your parking brake peddle since there won't be enough room between the speaker and the peddle. The panel is molded to fit a speaker totally in the panel which causes it to kick out more than a normal panel would. Typically there is a cutout in the car for the magnet to set into and these panels are designed for retrofits. This is pretty easy to remove and put back later on however if you are using the brake, you won't have it any longer. Make sure your speakers have a slim enough profile that they do not exceed this space.
2. My speaker grilles pop off easily because the speaker comes into the peddle area and they get kicked easily. Not a big deal, just irritating.
3. Your fresh air vents will no longer operate since you are now blocking off the outlet with a speaker. Make sure they are closed or you could possibly have other issues later on.
The sacrifice is worth the return and it's nice to know that I have everything to put it all back to original later on.
Just my two cents..

Could you get acceptable sound by mounting speakers under the dash?

I agree with Glenn on the no parking brake--unacceptable with a stick car or if you live in the mountains. Years ago when I was driving a 65 special as my everyday driver, I got really good sound by putting a better quality speaker in the front dash location next to the radio and a good 6x9 in the factory location in the center of the rear deck. Stereo was front to rear instead of side to side, but it sounded good and I was pleased with it.

Maybe we will fit in with the tuner crowd then and not look like old geezer's! Opp's better speak for myself.

Ok this might be a stupid question but I cant seem to find the answer. I want to put the parking brake back in my 65 GS convertible. It was removed to put kick panels with speakers in and they wouldn't fit without removing it. Has anyone found a set of kick panels with speakers that will allow you to leave the parking brake in place and use the vents? If not any ideas on installing front speakers. I definately do not want to cut the door panels! Any advise would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
John

Here in California, this will get you extra attention and maybe a ticket from the PO-PO. Can't cover both of your ears while driving.

Anybody know who makes the kick panels with the speakers (http://www.robustbuy.com/microphone-speakers-speakers-c-317_603_635.html) molded in?
I think you will get these kick panels in ebay. There is variety of stuff and you can select the best suited.
