I started this topic to start getting everyone who is planning the Ames Iowa trip orgainized so we end up with a really good showing there of the 65's.
At this time, I really don't know if I'll be going to this or the GS Nat's in 2010, but I'm going to try and make at least one of the shows this year.
I know that Ames has been discussed in several other spots on the site and the interest really seems to be really good with everyone.
So.. who's all planning on going and has anyone made arrangements yet and would like to share where they are saying? In the past, it always seems to help when a group stays at the same hotel and everyone shares in watching the cars at night, repairs and spare parts.
Did I forget to mention that having a string of 65's in the parking lot really looks awesome!
So.. who's first? :blob7:

We'll be there!
Need to make reservations with the host hotel.
Looking forward to seeing some more GSs.

Karen and I plan to be there. I have already made reservations at the host hotel, the Gateway Hotel. I initially planned to debut of the silver convertible. However, it does not look like I will have the restoration completed by then. I do plan to drive the red convertible and possible the white hardtop.

Hope to come over for the day and see John, Loren and others, Jon :headbang:

I'll be in Ames and i am 99% sure my car will be there with me. I'll admit that i am a little confused as to which is the best weekend to be there. I see some info suggesting it starts the weekend of the 24th and some suggesting the weekend of the 31st. Looking forward to it.

Rob,
The 2010 BCA National Meet starts on Tuesday July 27 with registration and check in. However, meet activities don't start until Wednesday July 28. The car show/judging is Friday. The awards banquet is Saturday evening, July 31. Here is their website, http://www.buickclub.org/iowa/2010_Buick_Nationals_Site/2010_Buick_Nationals_Page.html

I will be there - car or no!
Mark

Sounds great!
One question....what part of New Jersey is Iowa in?? :dontknow:
-
25 days and counting! :cheers2:
Anyone else going to be able to make it ?
Loren
-
Loren,
Karen and I will be there with our two GSs. I've heard that Al J. from Illinois will also be there with his Midnight Blue hardtop with the white vinyl top. His GS has appeared in several publications that you may have seen. Roger S. will also be there with his modified black 4-speed hardtop. Some of you may have seen his GS in Bowling Green at the GSCA Nationals in the past. It's a stunningly beautiful GS. It will be a rare event to see more than a couple of '65 GSs at a BCA meet.

I've seen Als' car. It is really well done.
I concur, it will be good to see more then just one or two 65's
Loren
-
Loren,
I will be there with my red post car. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
Dan

I will be there. Maybe Rob will let me ride with him....

Looks like the 65 crowd will be making a really good showing at Ames.
Here is a list of the guys I've heard are Iowa bound:
Al Jones
Roger Sears
Dan A.
Mark
John E.
Rob
That's six guys which is a really good showing and we should be represented very well.
Did I miss anyone who is planning on attending?
Chris
-
Chris,
Loren A.
Mark
-
Ah yes.. how could I have forgot Loren on the list? :evil5:
Loren
Al Jones
Roger Sears
Dan A.
Mark
John E.
Rob
A very impressive group.
Could someone remember to take a group picture and post it here? It might be several years before a group like this is able to reunite.
Chris
-
Chris,
Remembered another - I believe Jon Thompson will be there too.
We will get pictures!
Mark
-
Yes, Jon T. will be there.
Looking forward to seeing the group.
Chris, thought you were going to make it.
Loren
-
Loren,
As much as I'd love to make it, I'm kind of grounded right now with work. I'm actually headed out to KC next week on business and planning on at least spending some time with John and his wife the first day I'm in.
Ames was just a little too far from Ohio and would've taken too many vacation days which are a bit of premium right now.
I'm hoping that there will be many more opportunities like this in the future and this doesn't become a one time event and everyone should already have the 2015 BPG event on their calendars. :occasion14:
Drink one for me guys, travel safe and please bring back plenty of pictures.
Chris
-
Hey guys,
looks like my car will be ready to make the trip from Mn, even if I dont have all the little things finished I am still dragging it down there.
Jay
-
That's the way, Jay!
Loren
-
My buddy Ron will also be in Ames he has 3 65 GS but he is Driving over his Reatta, original plan called for driving over his convert and 4spd car. Jon
-
Probably one of the largest group of 65 GS owners ever will be making their way to Ames over the next couple of days and I really wish I was with them. :sad1:
Everyone travel safe and please bring back lots of pictures and good stories to share on the site.
"Fast With Class!"
Chris

We'll be arriving Thursday, looking forward to seeing everyone.
Loren

Take plenty of photos to post for those of us who cannot go. Please

Rob Keena is picking me up around 1 pm for our short (3.5 hour) drive to Ames.
He finished his car up last night, and got to drive it for about 1.5 hours with no troubles.
Yes, those "finished it the night before the show" stories are true!
Mark
-
Dan Habel can tell you one of those "night before the show" stories.
A couple of years ago, poor Dan flew into Ohio and I went down and picked him up. I live about two hours from the airport so by time we got to my house, Dan had about 9 hours invested in traveling.
We dropped his stuff off at the house and headed straight to the body shop to finish the assembly on the white convertible. About another four hours into it we finally had the car back together and loaded on the trailer. We grabbed about five hours sleep and the next day we drove about six hours to the Nats in Bowling Green.
A couple days later, it was another six hours home and the two hour trip back to the airport to drop him off. Dan then got the privilege of sitting on a plane for the next hours.
What motivates a guy to do this you might ask.... it's all about the 65 GS. :icon_thumright:
Chris

Ok guys... for those of us not lucky enough to be in Iowa this week, our buddies that are there have already began sending pictures our way.
I think that I count at least nine 65's there already with probably a couple more to show up. The one picture shows eight cars however I don't see John's white hardtop that I know he took (see the other picture) so we at least know there is nine or more.
The weather doesn't look that good and I hope it gets better for them.
Enjoy
Chris

Hot off the 65GS AP press....
There appears to be 8 cars there so far. John's while coupe actually looks yellow in the first picture (must be the overcast and how the sun is hitting it).
GS Bliss... nice! :angel4:
Chris
-
BTW guys... I almost forgot to mention, a big thanks to Robert Keena for taking and sending these pictures. :icon_salut:
Chris
-
Chris,
I have a bunch of photos to post, but need to resize them. I'll post them up tomorrow.

We ended up with 8 '65 GS cars at the BCA . There were 11 '65 GS owners and Saturday another '65 GS came to the general show, it was a local car.I don't know if anyone got his name.
This event exceeded my expectations, for the number of cars, owners and good times.
The caliber of the '65 GS cars there was outstanding.
It was one FANTASTIC event.
Loren

Just a few pictures of the eight GS's together. From the far end they belong to: John, Al, Roger, Dan, John, Jay, Rob, and Loren. Eight very nice '65's.

Saturday at the show - which was sparsely attended for some reason.
The maroon GS was in another part of the show, but stopped by group for a few minutes.
-
Hey Mark,
The Saturday show was for the Buicks Driven Class. Those cars were parked on the other side of the building. You apparently did not go over to that side. Also, the Charity All Makes Car Show was the parking lot south of the show field. Where we had our little '65 GS party were parked cars not moved from Friday's judged car show. Just a short explanation to those who are looking at the last set of photos.
Thanks for posting all the photos.
John Egel
-
John,
Thanks for clarifying that. I did not make it over to the other side of the building. By the time I found out that another separate show was over there, most of the cars were gone. The way Saturday was "organized" was confusing. When we pulled in Saturday morning, we were given incorrect information at the show entrance.
Mark
-
Mark,
After our hardtop was reviewed at the Driven Class show, they said that we were free to drive over to the Charity Show. Yes, we also noticed that not everyone who was working the show were completely informed. A lot of confusion and misinformation. Not that unusual at these big meets.
BTW, Al Jones wife's name is Kathy. She is a hoot!

Wow, these are awesome pictures. It's great to finally be able to put some faces to the names that I keep seeing on this forum. Also, some of those pictures, particularly the "Row of 65's" would make some great posters. Any chance of being able to get those in higher resolution? Finally, have you considered sending in a couple of these to Hemming's Muscle Machines magazine, or other similar magazines? Having this many 65 GSs together at one time has got to be something those guys would like to publish.
Wish I could have been there, but just a little too far for me.....maybe in the future.

Wow, what a great showing of 65 GS's and owners, had a great time but did not get to spend as much time with everybody as I wanted too! It was great to see old friends; Loren & Roxanne, Al & Kathy , John & Karen, Roger,Ron,Mark, Shaun ( burgundy car) and meet new ones;John, Dan , Jay, Rob & (dad) John. Is it not great that we live in a country where we can get together and celebrate our friendships and our Buicks! Looking forward to the other meets and lets try and all be at the 2015 Bpg show in Ohio! Jon
-
Nice showing! I was in Columbus for the BPG event; there was 1 65 racing OK, 2 if you count Doug Hecker's race car...
Wish I could have been both places!
Next year the BCA is going to be in Charlotte- party at Brian's house? :laughing7:
Time to get to work!
-
I heard it was going to be in Danvers, MA--is it really going to be in Charlotte?! If so, I have a huge yard out in the country and plenty of room for everyone to bring their '65 over to my house for a cook out.
-
I looked at the website and it is in Concord, NC (Charlotte) in 2012. 2011 is in Danvers, Mass.
-
The 2011 BCA is in Danvers MA. Dates are July6-9,2011.
I'm already planing on being there.
I heard there is talk of the 2012 BCA nats going to Charlotte.
Loren
-
AWSOME pictures. sure beats the 77 Nats. in Ohio, (4 cars).
Finally can put a face & car with some of you fellows and girls.
I'm glad I didn't have to judge at this show. ALL 1 st. PLACE.
Congrads on a beautiful bunch of cars.
Al
-
I looked at the BCA website and it has the 2012 nats listed as being in Concord, NC(which is where Charlotte motor speedway is). I think I may actually be able to make it to that one! Last one that was close enough for me to attend was in Richmond, VA back around 2000.
-
Hi Guys
Maybe it is my tired OLD eyes but there were no small emblem GS there?
Al
-
You're correct Al, I think we determined that 1 of them should have had the small badge. I think it was Rob Keena's.
Loren
-
Unfortunately no Buick shows for me this year so I have some catching up to do next year. Hopefully things have settled down enough.
This really was the show that any future show will be judged against. My hat off to all of you that made the trip and especially those who helped pull that many cars together for a really strong showing of our breed. :notworthy:
It can only get bigger and better guys.... more cars nearing completion, economy picking up and our network of owner only increases.
Our hobby is very healthy and it shows!
Chris
-
I think it was determined that Jay's car could properly sport the small badge. My car is an April car.
Rob
-
There was so much car talk with so many beautiful '65 GSs, you are most likely correct.

Anyone heard about the flooding in Ames this week?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtGmOx0E5Gs
Those who were there just 10 days ago will recognize some of the locations.
I know there's some pretty fresh news footage on youtube, but couldn't track it down.
Mark

Great video Mark. Where we were parked is underwater.

Here's an aerial video of Ames.
