Title: California Chrome Beauty Kit Parts
Post by: mdkd on April 20, 2012, 10:56:03 AM
Need Advice

I have a California Chrome Beauty Kit on my 65 GS and want to make sure I have all the right parts.

I have

Chrome Air Cleaner Tub
Standard Black Air Cleaner Lid (445)
Standard Air Cleaner Wing Nut (not chrome)
Chrome Plated Valve Cover Bolts with collar, recessed tops and raised LS on bolt tops
Chrome Plug Wire Stands with black plastic Wire Holders that fit under Valve Cover Bolts
Chrome Oil Fill Cover stamped AC (almost flat like Gas Cap not raised like Oil Breather)
Special Black Rubber Hose to connect Air Cleaner to Pollution Breather
Chrome Pollution Breather that connects to Valve Cover
Standard Wire Harness Clips not Chrome Plated

We used to have pictures of this option in the photo galleria but I haven't seen it since the last upgrade.

Should the Wire Harness Clips be Chrome, Black or Buick Green?

Does anyone sell the plug wire stands Chrome Plated or do I get them re chromed?

Does anyone sell the Chrome AC stamped Oil Fill cover? The one I have is a bit pitted and the washer is loose.

Is there anything else I'm missing like washers etc?

Thanks for the verification.

MDKD,

Cars, Inc in NJ used to sell the chrome plug wire stands but their site does not show them any more. Part # was WRS-636.
I would like to see a picture of the chrome AC stamped oil filler cover. Thought they were all plain. Cars sell a chrome one but it is plain.

Hi Milton,

The plug wire loom stands should be chrome, you'll need to have yours done. The wire harness clips should be chromed too. Still looking for a chrome AC oil filler cap... maybe a Chev supplier, or Corvette?

Dan & Mark

I may have found a chrome AC oil fill cap with 3 spot welds for my 65 GS California Beauty Kit with the rubber hose going from the chrome valve cover apple to the air cleaner body like Dan has in his convertable restoration project.

I have attached pictures of the one that came with my kit.

The last owner said his grandfather bought the kit with his brand new 65 GS in Phoenix AZ.

I just received a new (Pontiac) Ames Performance Engineering catalog # G28 and on page 173 item # N225F is a picture of the closest thing I have seen yet.

The description says "This new reproduction has the AC logo and 3 visible spot welds. We have seen this style cap on several low-milage cars. Application: 1967 w/Calif emissions, 1968-69 all". They are asking $34 each.

Perhaps there is someone out there that can share some additional light on this subject for Buick applications.

Milton,

Your post in April prompted a search of the parts bin for what had come off the convertible. Found the attached item. The convertible is a CA car with the chrome kit. Soaked the lid face side down in Evapo-Rust and it got some of the crud off. Believe this is the correct oil filler cap for the kit. Of course if its not someone will chime in.

Milton,

Just went to the Ames catalogue and lo and behold right next to the cap you mentioned is my 'correct' cap. Listed as being for a 70-71 Ram Air car  :crybaby2: So much for that theory.

All

Ames points out that Pontiac used the same Oil Fill Caps we got with our cars but I am still not convinced one or both of them wasn't used earlier by Buick.

Anyone have an idea on how to verify what was used?

Dan,
That FC-65 chrome cap is for '70 stage 1 .. Not sure about any earlier application.

Thanks for adding to the verification list on GS Oil Fill Caps.

Additional thoughts from anyone on adding to the earlier Oil Fill Cap list for the Chrome California Beauty Kit that has the emitions control tube going from the snorkel to the valve cover?

Hi Milton,

I've seen them both ways, and am not sure if there is a right or wrong either way.
I bought one of the oil fill caps from Ames. I'll post a pic later.

Thanks for posting your Oil Fill Cap against the Aims for comparison.

As you can see from my previous picture post it looks like we received identical Oil Fill Caps with our chrome kits.

Good to see you making progress on the Dream Car.
