I posted this question on the V8 buick site as well. Does anybody know what color the convertible top frame should be on a midnight blue 65 GS? Mine is Marina Blue which makes absolutely know sense. And looks awful.
Thanks

Todd,
Every GM convertible top frame I've seen from the 60s era is black.

Well, mine (while probably not right for my car) is an original and it's Marina Blue. So I am fairly certain they weren't all black.
The story is the car got leaked on when it was on the hauler and the top got damaged. They put a new top on the car, but they did it awful quick (according to the father in law). The theory is they yanked one off of a car on the lot to get him down the road. Probably a Marina Blue non GS car.
If anyone has a Midnight Blue GS car and can shed some light, it would be appreciated. Otherwise it will be black. Or perhaps dash color. Haven't decided....

Todd,
I can only add that the frame on both of my cars is black. The red one is original, so I'm confident it came that way from the factory. The other was white, but has been restored once, but still a black frame.
Cheers!

I've had five different color '65 convertibles, one of them Midnight Blue, and the top frames have all been black.

Were those original Loren? I googled a bunch and noted that cars with the saddle interior had kind of a brown gold colored frame stock. If I can't find anything else, I guess I will go with black. When I sell it they will probably come to you guys to see if its right or not anyway.....

Yes they were all originally black on the cars I've had. Two Specials one red, one white. An astro blue Skylark and two Gran Sports, one midnight blue and the other turquoise.
Now the thing I'll bring up is that all had white or black tops.

the top color may be the key then. Mine came with a baby blue top. Which I refuse to put on the car. White top black frame it is.

Interesting, we may be onto something.
Look at the trim tag on the firewall. What are the paint codes?

The blue top was available, but is pretty rare from what I recall. Sean Rogers, the gentleman who had the correct battery cables remade for the 65 GS cars about 20 years ago, had a blue top GS convert. Never seen one or a photo of one.

Look at my resto thread and you will see one Mark. I think they are rare because they don't look that great. :icon_puke_r:

One of my '66 GS convertibles decoded to a blue convertible top but it's black now.
