Title: Nice Nailhead rebuild article online!
Post by: WkillGS on February 21, 2009, 09:45:02 AM
Here's a very detailed rebuild article. Good Stuff! ;D
http://www.webrodder.com/index.php?page=showStories&search=nailhead

In a few cases, I've had the exact same issues as this guy did....the same problem with the oil pump, and I used the same technique to size my camshaft bearings (whom I can thank Doc for!).

Just a few comments on what I read from the articles so far:

- my Zollner replacement pistons did not have the piston pin relocated, so deck height was near stock at 0.045". However, piston dome volume was a tad less on my Zollners at 46.5 cc vs the 51 cc of the Egge pistons used in the article. Resulting compression ration was similar. I came up with 9.8 using stock steel head gaskets.

- Many don't like installing hardened valve seats due to thin head castings.

I still have to read the rest....there is a lot.

All in all, it appears to be a very well done article!

P.S. anyone have a technique to save that article on my computer? I don't wanna spend $60 for reprints.  :-\

Walt,

I tried a number of ways to copy that to my drive at home - unsuccessfully.
Great article.

with the window open and sized so you can see a whole page, press alt-prtscn or ctrl-prtscn,

then paste (or ctrl-v) into WORD or any word processor.

Here's another article featuring Russ Martin. Russ is one of the Nailhead gurus active on the Yahoo list. He sells parts, new and used, as well as offering builds and mechanic services in northern California. Both he and his brother have owned 65 GS's in the past,... or present!
