Title: Gm deaborn 3 speed question
Post by: 66nailhead on December 02, 2016, 03:48:18 PM
My brother is looking at a 1968 Dearborn 3 speed gm transmission. He wants to know if That will bolt up to the 401 belhousing and the input shaft length is the same as the stock 3 speed out of a 65gs?

Dan ,
A later dearborn 3 speed Will bolt up to the bell housing , But there is a couple things he will run into .
1st. the stock 65 throw out bearing will Not fit over the later front bearing retainer , so the front bearing retainer will have to be replaced with a 65 66 retainer or have the later one machined down to the 65 or 66 diameter .
2nd . I believe the output shaft yoke is going to be different also , this part may be easy though because the later yokes are really common .
I just tried to put my 65 yoke in a later 3 speed that I have and it would not go in .
Please correct me anyone if i,m wrong , but i,m pretty sure that this is the case.
