Ok, I found the GS casting on my T-10 and matching serial # stamped on the the top front. Does this verify that I won the "Clone Wars" and have an original GS (since my block #'s don't match)?
Has it been determined yet if the "GS" T-10 was:
1) Gran Sport only
2) Big block only (including Wildcat)
3) used on all Buicks (including small-block A body) after early January 1965
Anyone know the latest info on this?

The GS trannys reportedly got a ni-nickel gear set for strength.
Small-block trannys had a different gear ratio.
And Ted reported his Wildcat also has the 'GS' cast into the tailshaft.
The WA2052 stamping is the build date code. =
January 20, 1965, 2nd shift.

It looks like the VINs match, score!
1. The "GS" T-10 was GS only.
2. Don't know about the Wildcats
3. The T-10 was used in the small block Skylarks, but it didn't have the "GS" markings, and they had a different gearset.
I have located an original 65 Skylark 4 speed coupe locally, and hope to have it home when the snow melts.
Why are you questioning whether the car is an original GS?

No doubt that the 4-speed transmission belongs with that GS convertible. There can be a number of reasons why the block was replaced. Under warrentee, poor maintenance or cracked block from overheating. What is the block code on that engine out of curiosity? This can be found on the top front, passenger side, just in front of the valley pan.

Until I found all the great research on this website, I was 90% certain, but unable to prove that my car was an original GS. I do have an LR engine, but the numbers don't match. And being as the current plan is to put this up for sale soon, I don't want to misrepresent what it is.
I've got a lot of photos now - stuff that hardcore 65 GS fans will enjoy (I would think - cause everything on this car seems so correct). I'm trying to figure out where is the best place to post them.

Just found the info on the transmission.
In Buick service bulletin #65-4, dated January13,1965, it reads
"A second Gran Sport option, Code"A3", will include all of the items mentioned under Code "A9"above, except that a 4-speed fully-synchronized floor shift transmission, again with heavy duty clutch, replaces the 3-speed fully-synchronized transmission. This 4-speed transmission is the same heavy duty unit now available in the Wildcat models when a 4-speed transmission is specified."

Yep, the Wildcat 4-speed option was conceived first. (62 full sized cars had no 4-sp option) Carried over from 63 and 64 Wildcats...
I'm going to ask Matt Menges if his 64 Wildcat has the GS on the tailshaft. My thought is the GS did not
mean "Gran Sport" , may be just a anomoly of lettering.
