Title: connecting rod bolts ?
Post by: 35chevcoupe on January 29, 2018, 01:29:22 PM
When rebuilding these engines is anyone replacing the connecting rod bolts with ARP bolts or is everyone just leaving the stock bolts in and re using them ?

I bought ARP replacements from Carmen.  He told me they are designed for a 455, but work on a nailhead.  He said I might not be able to use the nuts and he was right.  I'll check on the part number and get back to you.

What is the issue with the nuts?  I put a set in my 65 401 and don't remember having any issues with using the nuts.

I think the flange and hex on them is just too large to fit in the machined pockets for the nuts.  The originals have the 12-point configuration and the ARPs have hex nuts.  Perhaps the hex takes a larger diameter to clear the pockets.
