Post by: 65gs76limited on June 23, 2009, 04:51:11 PM
I got the heater core and I'm going to replace the leaker.Anyone have any do's or dont's that have done this before? I'm going to attempt it without dropping the inner fender well.    Tom

Good luck, there a couple of screws that are next to the blower motor on the fender side that will be difficult to get too.

Tom,

I've replaced one on my convertible years ago.  There is one nut that is impossible to get at without removing the inner fender. The Buick Service Bulletin's method is to drill a 3/4" hole in the inner fender to gain access to that nut. That's what I did and now I wish that I'd taken the long road and removed the inner fender instead. Here's the Service Bulletins that explain the procedure. Don't forget to put a rubber plug back in the hole if you choose this method. Sorry, but my scanner is out of commission, so I had to take photos. I hope that you can read them. I wonder if a long handle ratcheting wrench would work?  Good luck.

John

Unless you are going for a 400 points restoration, leave that one nut out when you put it back together!  It will never make a bit of difference, and then next time you have to get at the heater core, it is a piece of cake.

I decided today was the day.I dropped the the inner fender and it really wasn't that bad.Took me three hours start to finish.John, like you i just couldn't bring myself to drill the hole but thanks for the instructions.Brian,i took your advise and left the top screw out.Even going for a 400 pt show car you can't see this screw missing. Thanks for all the help,  Tom
