Where the heck is every one????? ???
-
Has been kinda dead lately.
-
Do we need a stimulus plan?
-
Where the heck is every one????? ???
Joe,
I don't know about everyone else, but I've been busy getting the frame back under the body. Now the fun part starts, putting the dash back together. I haven't seen any recent updates from you on your project. Is it in the paint shop?
John E.

Looks great!! I'm Jelous!!!
I wish. I have a friend doing the body work.
I just got all my parts in my garage on saw horses so we can start. Being the fenders doors rad support deck lid and hood.
I haven't touched anything until yesterday.
-
You're not alone Joe!
Many of us are in a parallel....plugging away on our Buicks...miles and miles away from each other.
Your car looks great John!
I wish I could report some major progress, but this cold weather has slowed me down to the point where I'm practically hibernating! My garage is unheated. Even my basement shop is cold since I started heating my house with a wood stove....
I've been working on a (another) '66 GS. It's getting a mild 401 and a Richmond 5 speed. Engine is done. Still have some items to take care of before it gets installed....
Rebuilt engine mounts from Steele Rubber are due in next week....
Had to have the Richmond tranny's input retainer machined down to fit the stock release bearing and also to fit the bellhousing.
The Long shifter is about 1-1/2" further back from the stocker, so I need to fab a new shifter mounting plate to move it foreward.
The shifter hole was cut yesterday on a rare 50 degree day! (boy, that felt good!)
Also just realized i need to go thru the starter BEFORE I install the engine!
Finally, I need to fab the brake lines for the disk upgrade.
Once those items are done, I can install the engine!
My goal is to have the car together for Yardleys Buick picnic on May 9th!
-
I'm waiting for my transmission and shifter before I swing into action-
Then its hurry up and wait for the interior guy to free up a spot, then hurry up and wait for him
to work on the interior...That reminds me, I have to get the silver headliner stuff from SMS!
Ted
-
Ted,
Do you use an interior guy there or go across the river?
We have one decent shop up here in Lima but they are really expensive (only shop here so they can be).
I really need a fellow who is good at refinishing stainless / aluminum trim parts here in Ohio, any suggestions?
Chris
-
If you had one of "My Mini's" Walt you wouldn't have to worry about it SOOOO much as they will come out without loosening or removing anything.
Just a thought.
Tom T.
-
New date for Yard's is may 2nd. Not the 9th.
Wouldn't want Walt showing up a week late.

I'm using Darrin Cutter @ http://www.customstitchin.com/ for this one. He is a perfectionist and a great guy to boot. Busy as heck, even now.
On trim I've used a fellow over in Covington for the 65. There is a shop in dayton too, I'll have to look them up.

John,
Your car looks awesome, I'm so jealous. I haven't done much with the GS. I have some parts coming from Brian which I'm looking forward to getting. The job has taken me away from the car and this forum for a bit.
I'm still working on the gas tank install. Harder than I thought with the car on stands in the garage and not trying to nick and scratch everything.

Mark, Brian ie 197064buickspecial from the V8 Board? What did you grab from him. He has way tooo many parts!!!!
I have bought tons of stuff from Brian, great guy and a wealth of information too.
-
Thanks for all the compliments about the convertible. It's a pleasure to work on such a clean car. Sometimes, I go out in the garage just to stare at it.
Mark, I know what you mean about the job getting in the way of working on the GS. I either have the money, but no time to work on the GS. Or I have the time, but no money to spend on the restoration. The only major big ticket item left is the engine rebuild. Want to come to Kansas City to help? The BQ is on me. For the time being, I will work on the trim, interior and the dash assembly.
Mark, regarding the gas tank installation, have you thought of using a floor jack to help. Secure a large (1"x1' x 2')padded wood board to the jack face. Then use the jack to gently lift it into position and then secure the gas tank straps. This should keep the gas tank from getting scratched and save your back.
John E.
-
That's the way I've done them too.
Loren
-
Joe, nope - Brian Stone - he of "65 GS chassis kit" fame. I was able to pick up some VHTF California emissions pieces and other odds-n-ends from that car.
John and Loren,
Thanks for gas tank install the tips. I have the tank on the floor jack. I need to get th back of the car higher. I can't sneak the neck up into the frame/bumper area and clear the straps. The Patton Glade tank pad slides around too, not helping matters. I finally secured it with a couple of small pieces of carpet tape.
John, I'd love to come to KC and help out some time. I can probably get away for a weekend this summer and then visit Loren too.
Mark
-
Hey Mark! , maybe we could go down together. I'm smellin a road trip here. ;D
Loren
-
Loren,
That sounds excellent. Lets firm up some plans when you visit this spring.
Mark
-
Loren and Mark,
You're always welcome to visit and maybe turn a wrench. You bring the beer and I'll bring the BQ ribs. How about timing it when the engine gets installed? Can always use an extra hand with that.
John E.
-
Got a rough time in mind?
Loren
-
Loren,
The engine will need to be rebuilt first. Money is tight right now. I'd like to get that done this summer. However, you can always stop here for a visit on you way out to North Carolina to pick up your GS parts.
John
-
I think we are headed out I-80 according to the GPS.
Are you planing on the BCA nats in CO.?
Loren
-
I am amazed at how good that car looks in silver.....and I have been wondering if any body was alive too.....Where does Yards live?????
-
Hey Doc, Yards is in eastern Pa, just north of Philly. I'm about 30 min north of him.
His Buick picnic draws 20-30 cars. Always a good time!
-
ttt.
Lonely again.
Mark
-
There , there now Mark.
Spring is just about here and the shows and swaps start again.
Loren
-
Loren,
I know. I went to the GSTA show yesterday. Jim Hudsons 65 GS convert was in the show for the second time. It was painted a different color this time around. Most of the trim is cleaned off, and the tailights are painted body color. It also has a 455. Nicely done car, just not really my cup of tea.
Heading to the "new car" auto show now. The first swap is only 4 weeks away.
Getting motivated to work on the GS has been hard lately, but spring will help!
Mark
-
Is that the " GS " that came from WI ?
At one time he was buying up anything he could find.
How's the job going? Never heard anythingabout it. Did Milissa find something yet?
Our son starts his new job tomorrow. Hope it goes well for him.
Loren
-
I've been down to the shop a couple of times now and I have my "to do list" ready.
Won't be long and I'll have the convertible out and enjoying the spring time weather.
Chris
-
Just gettin the truck and trailer ready to go and fetch that chassis from Brian.
Having to cut the trip a little short , as things are a little busy at work. We have a complete redue on a Citation V and only 4 weeks.
Loren
-
Mark, it won't be long before I have to head up that way to pick up my '70...
no definate date yet as I had a last minute rear gear change- but it is ready
otherwise. I'd like to visit on my way through and see the Champagne mist!
Ted
-
Loren,
I have no idea if it's the same car. I know Jim has this GS convert, which is kind of a custom, and a Bamboo Cream stocker. I've never seen anything else he has.
The job is going ok so far. No complaints. Work and a paycheck is good.
Melissa is still looking. Nothing like an offer has come her way yet, but she's working on it.
I hope your son is on his way to success whatever he chooses to do.
Ted, looking forward to having you swing through!
Mark
-
This should get your blood flowing.Chis will post the rest but i was able to get these to load. From the 65 i just bought on Craigslist. What are these arm rest from?Never seen a skylark with ash trays in the arm rests before. Tom
-
Tom, I have to agree with you. They look stock. Must have been some sort of special order. I could be totally wrong but i'd say thet look like they belong there. Who freaking knows?? ???
Did you post your tag info?
-
I think they are from the rear seat of a 4-door Skylark. Pretty cool!
-
All the 4 doors i've ever seen had the short arm rests.
-
Tom, good to see you got the 65 home. What a cool find!
Perfect time of year to start a new project... now that the weather is getting better. You're in the midwest, right? Or is Ohio considered the mideast?? ;D
I'm in eastern Pa, about 10 miles from NJ. Joe is another 50 miles east of me.
-
What about Electra with deluxe interior?
-
Thanks Walt.I consider myself from the Midwest.Joe,here's the tag that no one has been able to crack. Also, anyone know what the hell the round disc like object is on the inner fender? Tom
-
Try the tag again.
-
I'll guess. It's an elemtary schooll bell?
-
I'll bet if there was a frek'in Calzone under there you'd know exactly what it is. :P
-
Tom,
You can't crack the tag because it's a Fremont car. The only thing I can tell you is that it's Champagne Mist with Black Buckets. Like another guys car around here. It was built 5th week of April (?). The arm rests aren't stock, but I've seen them before. They crop up on ebay and they appear/fit like the stock 65s. Can't tell you what they're from.
Mark

Not bad!
But boy, it needs a good cleaning!
If the paint has surface rust and staining, give it a good scrubbing with a mild abrasive like Bon Ami or Comet. You will be surprised at how well it works.
What is the vacuum can for? is it part of the AC system, or maybe a vacuum trunk release?
That's a 66 valve cover on the drivers side...
And I'll guess that bell is a 60's era car alarm.
-

This is the deluxe armrest in my 65 Skylark (I'm driving it today :o)

Those are definitely the rear arm rests from a '65 Skylark 4-door. I have parted out several and they all had the arm rest with the ash tray in it. The short ones that someone referred to came in the Specials. That arm rest with the ash tray will bolt right onto the front doors like it came there--probably was done because they couldn't find a decent pair of front ones anywhere.
-
YIPEE !!! Chris, u da man ;D
Now Ted and I don't have to strike up a conversation on this site.
Thanks.

Ted those are cool. I grew up in a 4 door and never seen them.
-
Thanks Joe,
Looking at the chrome it looks like I'm stealing these from the 4-door to put in the GS.
They have been turned already, but they look pretty good!
My 65 Wagon has no rear door armrests- lowest trim Special

I will check in my 65 chevelle catalog and get back to you.

Finally finished and on the road (again)
-
Looking VERY good !!! More pictures please.
-
Absolutely beautiful! It's no wonder that red is the most popular color for the '65 GS. The redline tires look great.
John
-
It is not the original Flame Red but 2009 Chevy Torch Red, base coat clear coat. I wanted something a little brighter.

I just noticed that Iam now a Senior member.

Well do tell!
-
There was a pretty clean 64 Skylark convert project on a trailer, but it had a 65 nose. The grille had a GS emblem. We wandered over to look at some of the other stuff he had, and there was a pair of 65 GS fenders, GS doors, and a really clean, straight front bumper. Also picked up a pair of rocker mouldings. The fenders are already in the scrap bin due to major rust and bondo issues, but I cut out the entire sections with the ventiports, and have the GS ventiports as well. The right rocker moulding was junk, but the left is straight. It just needs a lot of TLC to clean up. I passed on the doors - too rusty. The bumper just has some bumper jack dents in the bottom. It still has all the brackets and park lights. A great core to rechrome.
I haven't scored any Skylark parts at local in swap in quite a while.
Mark
-
I'm still looking for a good set of ventiports if your interested in selling them.
-
Joe,
Let me think about it for a few days. In the meantime, I'll, get some pics taken of the ventiports this week.
How good are looking for?
Mark

No pits? Can they be buffed up? Or am I just being stupid.
-
No one around?
-
I'm around.
A new project got given to me....
I call it an instant garage, but most people would call it a trailer box off of a tractor-trailer. It's 30 feet long. 8 ft wide, 8ft high.
If the township asks....it's a garden shed. ;D
It needs a new 'garage' door, and a paint job. For now I'll use it to store yard equipment and all that big stuff cluttering up my garage.
-
Nice size "garden shed" ;)
Loren
-
Sweet!!
I bet I could fill 2 of those.
Show us your set up Walt.
-
Hey Walt.. I was wondering about you buddy!
Good to hear you are still around and just busy expanding your "warehouse". ;D
I also would like to see some pic's when you are done, this actually makes a lot of sense and sounds like a cool project.
Chris
-
Nice tra.....er "shed" Walt. ;D Does it have barn doors, or a roll up door. If it has a reefer unit on the front, you could have an air conditioned shed!!!! 8)
-
It's a standard Morgan box, with roll-up door. Laminated wood plank floors, aluminum sides, with some 1/4" plywood on the sides. Weighs 3-4000 lbs.
No reefer...I gave that stuff up years ago. ;) No AC either. :P
It would be nice if it was a 'reeferigerated' box...insulated, and cool in the summer.
Oh...scratch the 'shed' designation...I need a permit for that. It will now be referred to as a 'trailer'. :D
The possibilities are endless....a workshop, garage, fill it with shelves and parts, paint room, bar ;D, etc, etc.
For now, it's for outdoor equipment, and I'm seriously considering a small paint area in one end.
As Joe said... I could use a couple of these!
I'll get some pics up in a few days....
-
Hows the new storage container working out?
-
Walt??? :P
Did you see the picture of the battery tray I pulled out of mt GS?
-
Walt? How bout cha?
-
Walt??? :P
Did you see the picture of the battery tray I pulled out of mt GS?
Yup! ...and I posted (somewhere) that I didn't recognize it as a 66-67 battery tray.
Storage trailer...It took me 3 days to get it moved into the final position (no wheels!)! :P Still doing some grading around it. For now, I just have some yard equip and some toys in it... JD425 lawn tractor, Banshee ATV, KDX 250 dirt bike, and a 6 ft wide mower for my Kubota tractor, so it's about 2/3 full already!
-
Nice. You got a banshee huh dude. Them things are insane!!
So now I'm stumped on my tray???
-
Joe,
What has you stumped? The trays are the same (all 65 Skylark) but the GS brackets are unique.
Mark
-
Joe has a 'unique' tray in his car. Pic here:
http://65gs.com/board/index.php/topic,250.msg1727.html#msg1727
I believe he needs to brackets?
-
Yea it never stops for me. If it can go wrong it probably will!!!LOL!!!!
Walt you are right, so where do I get these brackets? I know they don't make em. So can you give me any leads? I don't even know what i'm looking for. Do you have any pics? Is it something I can fabricate?
-
Joe,
Relax. I have an extra set in the stash. Send me pm with your address and I'll dig them out today. I know they're going to a good cause!
Mark

Your Awsome Mark. I will return the favor one day. ;D
-
Joe,
I know you'll need the inner fender bracket and the core support bracket that bolts to the "flange" that covers the radiator tank, but do you also need the bracket that bolts to the front of the core support? I think that bracket was common to all Skylarks. There is a view of the parts in the service manual, look on page 99 in the Electronic Garage/65 GS Manual.

Checked it out Mark thanks. It is the only piece I have thats correct and present but it rusted in the corner making it useless.
So if you can spare the entire correct set up i'd be in your debt forever. :D
Thanks Mark ;D
-
Mark,
You are correct that the front bracket is the same on all GS/ Skylark/ Special models.
Loren
-
I'm feeling lonely again.
Especially since I have no extra cash to go. Figure I'd need at least 500 to 700 to cover the whole thing. Just don't have it.
Sucks!!!!!!!!!!
-
And that's before I buy any parts!!!
Which is a gimme!!!!
-
I'm passing on the BPG meet too. Maybe next year I can be ready.
But there are some great alternatives around here....
There is a great car show in Macungie, Pa (near Allentown). It's Huge!
http://www.awkscht.com/
And a great music festival called Musikfest.....10 days long, with 8 stages, and it's FREE! It's in Bethlehem, Pa. I'll be going most, if not every day! ;D

Thats cool Walt. Make sure you have your camera to wrangle up the buicks for us.
I'm temporerally having a brake light issue. In whick I will be making a thread.

I look in everyday, but lacking of funds has kept anything much from happening in the Buick world around my house, so not a lot to post.
Want me to talk about the door I put on the barn this weekend just to get some conversation going?
Maybe the upcoming hunting plans?

Hello hello hello !!!!!!
So how was the Englishtown swap meet??? Did you see many old GS stuff???
I'm still pluggin away on my 66 project. Almost road-ready! pics soon. :sunny:
-
No GS stuff.
But it's still cool hanging with the guys.
It's a few days out anyways.
-
I missed the E-town swap meet, but went to Carlisle on Thursday. Picked up a few dog dish hubcaps cheap, a couple of super nice rear control arms for my 65, and some small stuff from the GTO/Chevelle resto parts suppliers.... They have LOTS of stuff for our GS's. You just have to take original samples with you to match up the proper parts. Didn't have time to check out the cars in the car corral tho. Cool event!
