Title: preparing parts to get rechromed ?
Post by: 35chevcoupe on November 07, 2016, 11:36:07 PM
I,m getting my 1st batch of parts ready to go to the chrome shop and was wondering how striped down the parts have to be .
For example the back up lamp housings , do the threaded studs need to come out and the bulb socket ? or do does just the wiring need to come off .

Hi,

I never had backup lights, but did have a set of backup deletes rechromed, I removed the studs.

If you haven't already gotten a quote I will fore warn you  die cast parts like the backup light housing can be expensive as they have to drill out each pit and silver solder each one, so a nicer core will cost you less.

My deletes cost me 200 bucks each, I had a second set with more pits and they quoted me 500 a piece.

As for the light sockets not sure how they come out, but check with your plater and they should tell you what to leave or remove.

Regards,

Thanks Jim ,
The bulb socket i,m thinking is not removable with out destroying it .   I tried a little bit to take out the studs but they seemed like they were in there pretty tight .   I didn't try real hard though as I didn,t want to break them .  Might try it again .
Ufda 200.00 each is kinda pricy .
I can only IMAGINE what my tail light housings are gonna cost . :sad4:

A good chrome shop can put shrink tube over the threads - I didn't remove mine.  I recommend Chrome Plating Indiana.

Thanks
