Title: 7042240 Quadrajet
Post by: Rickesota on March 29, 2017, 08:48:49 AM
...so I had mentioned before I scored a free Q-jet. It needs a rebuild, but looks pretty solid. From the numbers on the carb, it was built 4/11/72 for a Buick 455/auto and was Federal Emissions compliant. The CFM is either 750 or 800 - the interwebs say both. Is this too much for my 350? Cruiser, not race car.

Any other learned opinions on this carb?

Thanks,

Rick

Later 350s had 800CFM Q's, so you will be OK.

You just need to have the proper jets, rods and curcuits using the proper sizes for the parameters of the engine.

Cam, compression, fuel grade, ignition, transmission and so forth all matter on how to set up a Q-jet. But if they are done properly, thy provide good economy and a kick in the butt when you stomp and romp.

Dailing all that in is not complicated, just complex variables and you can either learn and do and learn, or you can provide all that you know and ship the carp to the guys that are Q-Jet wizards.
