Title: North America made gas tank
Post by: Loren At 65GS on January 05, 2009, 06:12:33 PM
I've seen on ebay a gas tank available that is North American made . It comes without a filler neck.
Has anyone seen one yet in person? Is it correct stamping?

Thanks ,
Loren

Loren,

I bought a Tamraz tank, made in Canada. It comes with the neck.
I'm in the process of putting it in. Looks pretty good to me, but it's not in the car yet.

Loren,

I had bought one w/o the neck (I think it was Tamraz also) and after looking at it really close I wasn't really happy with it.  I bought it off of Ebay and I think it may have been a lower quality version they sell.

I went out to Year One and bought another one with the neck and it's much better.

I've noticed that they have several tiers of quality and this is typically by price.

When I bought my tank from Year One, I also picked up the top pad, anti squeak straps and a new fuel sending unit.  I wanted to make sure once this thing is mounted, I'm not tearing it back out for a long time.   ;D

Supposedly my tank is treated on the outside and doesn't require paint.  I've seen others that are less expensive without the coating that they say you should paint.

Hope this helps...

Another source is Quanta Products, LLC. They're located in Md. They have a space at the Carlisle swap meets here in Pa....a great way to save on shipping if you can make the show.
I believe they are made in N.A., but I'm not certain.
Their website is:
www.gastanks.com

www.rockauto.com was said to have great prices for the later 70-72 GS. Might be worth a try.
